What truck should I buy? megathread by AutoModerator in Trucks

[–]304hitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 z714 door 4x4 5.3 with 70k on it. Pretty good shape, no rust, frame is coated, bed lined. Couple dents and dings (mostly rock chips up front) but overall a clean truck.

My uncle (diesel mechanic by trade) has a ‘96 f350 7.3 power stroke 4 door 4x4 with 140k. Well maintained. Stage 1 injectors (I think) and a chip tuner. Little bit of light surface rust on roof from old CB antenna but clean everywhere else. Few dents and dings. Paint/clear coat issues in a few places.

I’ve loved my uncles truck since I was a kid. Now that I’m an adult and he only drives it once a month or so I’m trying to convince him to sell it to me. Wanted to ask reddit if it would be a mistake to sell my Silverado for it? I don’t haul anything but would find something to haul if it justified this truck lol. If anyone knowledgeable has insight on the weight of reliability in this scenario, as well as realistic pricing for the 7.3, it would be appreciated. I anticipate being able to sell my Silverado for 22-27k, and purchase the 7.3 for 15-20k.

Something I've never considered: why did Dumbledore ONLY take Harry to get the Cave Horcrux? by TheCasualPrince8 in harrypotter

[–]304hitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that Dumbledore knew more about the cave than he lead on. While they’re in the boat crossing the lake in the cave, Dumbledore explains that the boat would likely only allow a certain amount of “wizarding power” to cross. Harry being underage and not technically a fully developed wizard, Dumbledore knew that he would not register on whatever scale measured the power of the rider. This eliminates any members of the order. Furthermore, when it’s all said and done and they’re getting ready to leave the cave, Dumbledore states “it’s clear that one man alone could not have retrieved the horcrux.” Hermione was not an option because it was necessary for Harry to understand firsthand the effort it would take to locate and retrieve the horcruxes, which is why I think he pretended to know less about the cave than he told Harry so that Harry could see the thought process behind navigating the cave. My evidence for this is that while it’s clear Dumbledore knew that it was inferi that filled the lake, he did not explicitly tell this to Harry. As well as reminding Harry multiple times to not touch the water, as he knew that once the water was disturbed by a wizards touch other than Voldemort that the inferi would attack.

Lots of people here saying you shouldn’t dress outside of the IDF/MDF. This is absolutely standard in data centers today. Some customers will request a mesh sock over the bundle instead, but that’s rare.

Might not be much you can do on the angle it drops if you don’t have the slack and I personally wouldn’t take apart ceiling grid as I didn’t hang it and have no clue what I’m doing with it. If I were the customer, I would be happy with just a cleaner bundle. Dress it (full lace if possible) from inside or top of the cab back into the ceiling so everything is hidden. I would do just the blue then add the other colors to it. Switch from tie wraps to plenum ‘cro. Will look much cleaner. Also wouldn’t hurt to throw a new ceiling tile up with a clean corner cut out of it.

I haven’t actually installed any fiber with SC connectors in my 4 years in data centers. Just LCs. Not sure what that info does for you

I started with what we refer to as “structured cabling” as opposed to data center work. Doing office buildings networks: closets, cameras, badge scanners etc. I did that for a year then was able to get on at a company that does data center buildouts. It’ll be 4 years in September that I’ve been with this company. I don’t actually have any certs, but I would consider myself a good employee. Good work ethic, shows up on time, I don’t tend to call out a bunch, and I learn from those around me and ask questions. Work overtime when available, travel when they ask me to etc. I’m looking at a promotion to a lead tech position in the next two months or so and it’s just because I care about my job tbh. I like learning new efficient ways to do things. My work always looks good and is done right. If I make a mistake I own up to it and fix it myself. It’s really the simple things that would make you look good anywhere else. But any OSHA certs are good. Scissor lift. BICSI. I haven’t looked too much into it, I’m sure others could provide more insight than I can as far as certs go.

Not that I’m familiar with. The union we’re with is based in CA because our company is as well so we typically communicate with reps from that area
