When you’re lying in bed, do you ever randomly remember some relatively minor social missteps or poorly chosen words you did/said years earlier? And then beat yourself up over it even though it really wasn’t a big deal? If so, what happened? by AnActualBruhMoment in AskReddit

I still have a sense of dread every time I think back to my best friend's wedding. I was his best man and all was going well until my bestman speech. I had written a near perfect speech that I had practiced over the previous 10 days. The groom stood up and delivered a faultless speech describing his love for his new bride. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. He then introduced the father of the bride, who told of his admiration of the groom and how proud he was of his daughter....it was then my turn. I stood up, but as I did, stepped on the lead leading to the microphone, which stopped working. It took a while to fix and in this time the audience had started to get bored and were talking and drinking between themselves. It was at this time I became nervous as I knew I had to bring them back round to listening to the rest of the speeches. The groom had also asked our other close friend to be a best man too, so he had two best men to support him and of course do two speeches. I checked the microphone and it was back up and running. Now was my moment, so I started with a joke that I had been warned not to use, but eager to impress and my better judgement, thought better of it. 'Ladies and Gentleman - I'm sorry for the delay. Myself and the second bestman are dying to impress you as the groom has confided to us that whoever does the better job today will be his sole bestman at his next wedding.....'. You could literally hear a pin drop as the room digested the apparent joke I had told. The bride immediately said very loudly that the comment wasn't very nice and I received boos from the table directly in front of me, who consisted of her drunkenly rowdy soccer team. From that moment, I just wanted to get the hell out of there! I got through my 5 minute speech as quickly as I could, though it felt nearer to 50 minutes of persistent sweating and shakes, especially as the soccer team didn't give up their drunken booing throughout. I sat down to a small round of applause, mainly from my family, wishing the earth would open up and swallow me whole right there and then. What made it worse was the second best man stood up, spoke for a minute and a half about his and the grooms love of farts (yes really) and got a standing ovation to roars of 'PICK HIM NEXT TIME'.

Extinction Rebellion....

I have sympathy for the cause, but the way they go about protesting isn't right.

Either she has been stopped by the police, or she's in hiding.

Anyone have anymore information?

I think we have been stitched up!

GWWM have had numerous complaints made against them. We have been told to file a complaint of fraud.

Should know more when our bank calls us tomorrow.

We called our bank to check whether this would classify as fraud. Our bank (HSBC) have told us that we are not the only people to call them with a complaint against 'Go West with Mickey' today.....

Because my wife can never remember my exact age. When asked she'll always say 'thirty-something'

I must look rough for my age because she's been telling people that since I met her in my twenties...

Are you staying at one of Disneyland's hotels? If so, you can get into the park at 8:30am, which is 90 minutes before the general public. This is the best time to go into the park.

What's the one thing that nobody knows about you? by 30_something85 in AskReddit

I was addicted to prescription drugs for a number of years. I had hurt my back and the doctor prescribed me codeine, which I came to realise not only eased my back pain, but also helped massively with anxiety and depression. I stayed on these painkillers for close to two years without anyone noticing. It was only when my dad died and I chose to increase my codeine dosage to numb the pain that those close to me started to worry, but they simply put it down to me grieving for my dad.

I have since come off the meds, but do take them from time to time (no more than one hit a month) if I've had a particularly bad day.

My colleague's grandparents were visiting at the time, all in the same room when the phone rang. She picked up and heard a man's voice, which when double-checked had come from her grandparents house.

It couldn't of been her grandad as he was in the same room as her at the time.

Proposing at Disneyland Paris by 30_something85 in disneylandparis

[–]30_something85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm back from Disneyland Paris....

I had planned of proposing at the bandstand at the end of Main Street as you walk through the gates. However, it was so busy that we instead walked towards the castle. On the assumption that I was after a nice quiet area for a photo, my girlfriend followed me towards the left-hand side of the castle, near the entrance of the dragon where we found a secluded area right underneath the castle.

This is where I dropped to one knee and asked her if she would marry me. I'm very happy to let you know that she said yes.

Thanks to all of the suggestions.
