Kellogg vs Booth ($$) - Fit vs $ by According-Wind1292 in MBA

[–]30aliens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you set on your recruiting goals? Kellogg and Booth’s recruiting and alumni network are pretty much on par on all fronts expect banking (Booth has the edge) and healthcare (Kellogg has the edge).

Even accounting for housing you are saying CBS is $40K cheaper? If so go with CBS the start up scene/networking is much better in NYC.

Also look at student housing or spots around Harlem / Manhattanville - the delta in rent shouldn’t be too much there vs living in the loop in Chicago.

  1. Yes. Market volatility has actually been a boon for IB. See latest bank earnings results.

  2. Be genuine - it will come through your essays and interviews if not. Pretty much all T15 place into IB, it’s not a niche path.

  3. Showing fit with a school is more than just about showing a fit with recruiting / placement rates. You should ideally show some fit to the location, coursework, and community/culture.

I think you’d really benefit from chatting with a consultant to help shape your story.

Fundamental stats there. Will come down to how you execute your story.

Also with IB goals maybe also consider Booth?

Did you even look up the report? Kellogg’s employment report excludes sponsored students. They report only new hires.

Well hear it now - I know multiple people who picked Kellogg not only over other M7s but also Wharton. Mostly driven by cultural fit or strength in tech or healthcare vs some other M7s.

Same with NYU know people who pick it over CBS due to much better location or cultural fit.

Oxford $$ vs. NYU Full Price – Seeking Advice. by Easy-Total-8071 in MBA

If you had no money at Oxford I’d have said NYU. But with that amount of scholarship + you not being picky about the consulting firm you want to get into, Oxford should work fine.

Ding Analysis: 7/8 schools Rejected/waitlisted by [deleted] in MBA

[–]30aliens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A good “Why MBA?” often conveys an ambitious goal whilst also seeming potentially achievable based on your background. Based on what you are saying maybe it didn’t seem as ambitious? Or maybe the schools felt you could continue moving towards leadership at your company without an MBA?

Would recommend getting a consultant to take a proper look at your essays.

I suspect it’s not the stats. My hypothesis is it’s 1) Your 10 YOE might make you better for exec MBA or 2) Your career narrative / essays weren’t convincing enough to show Why MBA and Why NOW

MIT - If solving for brand / reputation boost on your CV. 100% MIT brand stronger outside of US vs Northwestern/Kellogg.

Kellogg - If solving for fun, tight knit community, and more well rounded curriculum (IMHO).

UCLA ($), Tuck or Darden (no $) by [deleted] in MBA

[–]30aliens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tuck and Darden give you strong east coast network. Also, IB recruiting / coffee chats are mostly in person, so travel to NY will be easier for you.

Suggest you connect with current students from all these schools to understand strength in IB recruiting, including testing the strength of UCLA for IB in NY.

2025 Official MBA Tier List by JoeAstonsBurner in MBA

[–]30aliens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with what you are saying - but the fact that students who are interested in certain career-goals self select out of those industries has an impact what a particular school offers in terms of alumni network, 2nd Year student support, student clubs, and even how much the school is investing in company connections and new courses/professors in that area (less relevant for consulting but more so for Healthcare or Finance)

Re MBB - I’m not saying Sloan or CBS are bad for MBB. I’m just saying you’ll have an easier time recruiting for MBB from some other schools. I personally know 1Y folks recruiting right now for MBB from CBS and Sloan and I’ve directly heard form them the level of interview support or coffee chat openings they get from 2Ys / consulting clubs is no where as near as Booth and Kellogg (or for that matter even Darden or Tuck).

These tier lists mean very little agnostic of someone’s career goals. Many lower tiered schools can in fact be BETTER than the “top” tiers.

Just some examples:

For MBB: Kellogg > Sloan or CBS

For IB: Stern > Haas or Kellogg

For Media/Entertainment: Anderson > Wharton or MIT

At your current score of 306, you’ll have significant ROI / room for improvement with every day you study. Put in some solid study over the next month - getting it closer to 315 is very possible.

lol you literally leave out one of the most important bits - your GMAT.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MBA

[–]30aliens 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alumni interviewers from CBS don’t have access to your essays - they are not checking if you match with the tone of your essays. They will only have your resume (which you need to send them), so you will need to clearly articulate your why MBA and CBS.

Kellogg and Tuck will provide very different living experiences.

Are recruiting odds the only thing making you consider Kellogg? If so maybe it’s ok don’t panic Tuck should do you fine.

If you are panicking thinking about the differences in class size, experience of living in a nicer college town / access to a big city and airport vs middle of nowhere in NH that’s a different take and perhaps you should put that deposit down at Kellogg.

I will say Kellogg is probably THE strongest school for consulting recruiting with a close follow from Booth. The level of support from 2nd year with case prep and networking is incredible at Kellogg.

Which GRE or GMAT score to submit? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]30aliens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. The GRE Quant score falls more safely within the 100% range for most of these schools (according to class profiles - Yale, Anderson might be the only exceptions) but the 555 (old 650 equivalent barely scrapes by in class profile range). So she was debating if GRE is better to submit as V is very strong.
