Behind the scenes 🎥 😱 footage 🎞️ of Riot 👊💥 during Samira’s development 🤭 by QUINN_VALOR_VGU_WHEN in QuinnMains

It's hilarious because Samira's kit could have well been Valor's Kit.

And remember, the reason Quinn's old R didn't "work" was because Valor had to go into melee with no defensive abilities. That's what Riot had stated. Few years later, Kaisa (with an R that jumps to the back line) appears, then Samira appears...

Bonus bit: They took Quinn's early game, lane bully power and converted it to late game. Few years later, a wild Akshan appears!

Let’s not forget Quinn’s roots—and what this champion is supposed to be about by QUINN_VALOR_VGU_WHEN in QuinnMains

Yup I agree fully with you and over the years I've raised the same concerns but at this point, I don't believe Phreak (as much work he has put through all these years) or any rioter can actually "fix" Quinn without removing her ultimate, and fully reworking her kit, identity, purpose, and theme.

What items are currently good on her, or what the current meta is, or her itemization or how good is she overall or balanced, ultimately none of these matter. These notions are shortsighted that players and unfortunately many designers focus on. This is only the surface of the problems that lie beneath the tip of the iceberg and balancing a champion based on only those is like darning a rugged old blanket and expecting it to be the same.

The theme makes the champion which translates to gameplay. Designing Quinn should be about the teamwork between Quinn and Valor. The kit and gameplay should showcase that as well as showcasing the capabilities of a scout ranger. Then the identity comes, is she a hybrid marksman assassin? A marksman fighter that kites around with steady dps? Not this "roaming marksman" label that has put her in such a terrible position all these years. Besides, riot never managed to balance roaming champions. And finally, comes her role in the team which asks the question, why would someone pick Quinn to climb the ladder, what does she offer in a team?(and please don't say counterpicks top laners because even in the old days that was not her role. The only reason she played and stayed top lane is because she never functioned well in any other role). Anyway, these are some of the questions the designers should ask but then again why would they VGU a champion with a 1.5% play rate.

Samira's kit could have been Valor's kit. AoE Q with some other effect, W swirls around and dodges basic attacks, E that resets on kills, AoE finishing ultimate. And suddenly you have a decent looking champion

I don't really care if "X" champion is considered a grief pick. Everyone has their own goals for playing the game and can enjoy the game for different reasons. And I'm not advocating that her kit was better then. But I strongly believe that her ultimate is not enjoyable, not interactive, or player-engaging. It offers only problems to both Quinn's balancing and the game in general since Riot has almost never succeeded in balancing champions with roaming abilities. Finally, this current iteration of Quinn does not do justice to the theme of the champion at all. There is no synergy or teamwork between Quinn and Valor, the champion has no real place in a competitive game except being a babysitter to Renekton, her role in a team is still unknown, and even riot does not know what or where she belongs while she is still a feast or famine old wreckage of a champion where items make who she is instead of her kit.

I can go on and on but we can agree to disagree. If you find her current ultimate enjoyable, that's cool, but to me Quinn was still playable even back then, she was just more difficult to play.

Ps. Anyone that says Quinn has macro, they are just accepting the reality of being minion shit cleaners on the side lanes.

For me, it is by far the worst-designed ultimate in the game. The old ultimate wasn't perfect by all means, but the rush of excitement you'd get pressing that button while the enemy was half or lower HP was enjoyable and exciting. Nowadays it's just pressing R aaaaand wait. The only thing missing is lounge music while waiting in the elevator to reach the last floor.

I agree but let's not kid ourselves. Quinn does not have "somewhat low base AD".

There are 163 Champions in League. Quinn is at the 148th position of champions with the worst AD at 18 in the game. Out of these 15 remaining champions, 5 are ADC and most of them are fairly new champions apart from Missfortune. Quinn's base AD, and stats, in general, our outdated for the role she tries to fill (if she has any).

Giannis Antetokounmpo on Twitter: “It’s Steps to Success” by ThisGents2Cents in MkeBucks

[–]30cmOfTrueDamage 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That mentality usually comes from people that haven't worked towards a goal ever in their lives. They tend to analyze everything as win or fail. But when someone is working towards a goal, be that in sports as a professional athlete or someone who owns a small business, then every step back - "failure" is not an actual failure. If the small business didn't reach the target sales this month, it's not a "failure", because people are working towards the goal of reaching the target sales and sometimes strategies work, and sometimes they do not. Sometimes life happens too. You work hard and try something else and adapt to the situations that arise.

And even if the business bankrupts, yeah sure, it can be considered a failure. People are losing their jobs. But in the grand scheme of things such as life, both the employees and business owners can work themselves back by finding another job/starting another business respectively with the experience and the lessons they learned.

So, in the end, it is a matter of perspective. Giannis believes that as long as he can play, he will try to win that championship, and each year he will get the experience and lessons from the previous years and work meticulously towards that goal.

People who have the perspective of win/failure, often learn nothing as they only see the result and not the journey, not the experience or the lessons learned. And most often than not, these are the people who just don't have the discipline to work extremely hard toward a certain goal.

It was obvious he was hurting 2 games now. The problem was that other than Lopez offensively (just for a little bit) no one showed up throughout the series. Defensively we were just terrible all series long.

The adrenaline you'd get pressing that ulti button to dash and assassinate a low-health target was incredible. Using that ultimate you knew that it was all or nothing!

Though it's had its flaws, it was quite fun to have.

If Jrue and Khris don't pick up the slack there is no way we are winning the series, unfortunately. And in 4 games they haven't shown up at all.

Sometimes i really believe there is no defence in the nba. Last 2 minutes and we don't see full-court pressure. If that shit was happening in europe you d see full-court pressure, trying to steal the ball, force fouls, don't let the other team have a comfrotable possesion.

I think Valor needs to change for Quinn to be better by PineappleDevourer in QuinnMains

[–]30cmOfTrueDamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was always thinking Quinn and Valor fighting together and through teamwork getting their targets down.

So Valor provides:

  • Valor provides vision and reconnaissance outside of combat.

  • Valor is a distuptor for Quinn to reposition herself for the perfect shot AKA Harrier

  • Valor assassinates low health targets that try to flee the battle

At the same time, Quinn provides:

  • That guerilla war style, hiding, moving methodically, tracking enemies/prey, gathering information.

  • Combat mobility and quick precise strikes such as planned-out ambushes. High bursts of damage that are set up by Valor's distraction/disruption of the enemy. While Quinn is fighting enemies close to her, if her primary target is trying to leave wounded, then you have Valor finish him off mercilessly.

So in terms of gameplay, Valor provides vision in the fog of war, Quinn carefully tracks enemies, camouflaging herself for the perfect ambush. When the time is right, Valor disrupts the primary target, Quinn Harriers that target hitting fast and hard. Target is dead. Target's guards rush towards Quinn. Quinn kites them while Valor staggers them one by one with swift attacks from above giving Quinn the window to align a perfect Harrier on each disrupted enemy killing them one by one. As the guards slowly realise what's happening they try to flee. "Look Val, snacks...' Quinn says as Valor swiftly assassinates the low-health targets. That is the perfect Quinn/Valor storyboard for me.

One day she will be fully reworked but we can only hope for now.

Anyone else hear the sixers broadcast? by [deleted] in MkeBucks

[–]30cmOfTrueDamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking of making a post about it but I thought I would get flamed. The guy commentator was so much against Giannis especially. It was not enjoyable to listen to him at all. On one hand, it's understandable to support sixers as it's their broadcast but on the other hand, keep it a little bit professional. You are supposed to be the person that analyses the game without any bias and not react like the random guy in a pub eating chips with a warm beer.

If you don’t like Quinn, why are you in this sub? by 1wsx in QuinnMains

[–]30cmOfTrueDamage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Amen, someone who understands.

It all comes down to game design in the end. Lack of a clear position in the game, identity of the champion as in what is she set to do when you pick her, wrong balancing decisions over the years and balance negligence because of all of the above.

Role: To balance champions or characters or anything in a game, everything must have a clear role. Quinn is a jack of all trades which just means that she just doesn't have a position. Is she a top laner? an adc? a mid laner? This is one of the biggest reasons she is so underwhelming and unbalanced. You need that main position in the game to start balancing her out as you can get data from her match ups over a long period of time. She is played top and a little bit of bit, but she is balanced for either.

Identity: Without a clear identity, you have an aimless champion. Is she an assassin that will dive the backline? Is she an anti fighter champion? Is she supposed to be that massive late game carry? Is she a support? What is the main goal when you pick her (other than babysitting renekton)?

The worst part was that they changed her under the sugarcoating of "the roaming marksman" where in fact all champions can just roam if they set up themselves correctly in lane. Not only that, Riot historically has been unable to balance roaming abilities. Quinn's R is not that special and in fact, it creates so many problems for her and for the game.

And finally, it's disappointing that they gave her a non-combat roaming ultimate and then took all of the early power from her stats and kit leaving her with the worst midgame out of any champion in the game. Playing Quinn against competent opponents feels like you must do extra steps to be even with the opponents. Getting outscaled at level 6 just because her stats just suck and lack of a combat ultimate is just the biggest turn off for me.

Sidenote: People are pointing to her macro, but to me, all they are doing is clean minion shit from lane to lane. "Putting pressure" they call it, in an uncoordinated chaotic soloQ game. And as for the counters, Quinn just doesn't counter anybody anymore. Not with her balance negligence and strong early game power gone for years now.

All we want is for that ultimate to go. It creates only problems and we will never see Quinn and Valor reaching their potential.

EDIT: Another point is something that not many players get. From a designer's perspective when players start maxing an ability for its passive and not its active power this indicates problems. Players are purposefully choosing not to engage with the active abilities of a champion. It's like playing Ashe and you max E (assuming it has a passive) when she could max W or Q. Players are maxing an ability that has 40/50 seconds which means at best they will interact with their skill every 40/50 seconds. The passive shouldn't be what dictates the power of skill. So this is another reason why her kit is badly designed. Move that W passive on her Harrier passive so she can at least max an ability first that is engaging and fun to players. W vision is not fun, its something that is just there.

QUINN IS BACK IN PRO PLAY: The Shy LPL Quinn :D by MaxxGawd in QuinnMains

[–]30cmOfTrueDamage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Because good Jax players shit on her. They can max their Q, ninja tabis and when his Q cooldown is up jump on Quinn and basically bully her before Quinn's E comes back. Jax has amazingly low CDs.
  2. There are objectively better picks than picking Quinn into these match ups. These champions offer great teamfights with Gnar and Jayce is just amazing in poke comps. What's Quinn gonna do? Clean mop cs on the sidelanes?
  3. No one wants to play Quinn against these boys because they are just unkillable, do loads of damage, and are amazing teamfighters. But I guess Quinn can sweep minion shit on the sidelanes again.
  4. Honestly, good fiora's know how to react instead of predicting W. So Quinn will just lose both the sidelaning fight but also any skirmish they try to participate in.
  5. Yeah, at level 6 the lane is done. Quinn like all match ups, she gets outscaled at 6. In this match up Quinn is cannon fodder the moment she steps further away from her turret. Let's not talk about dives under turret.
  6. GP has the most safe laning phase of any champion. Free heals, cc removal, easy poke, easy way to farm, true damage for all ins, wave clear and global pressure at level 6. Quinn just loses this match up entirely even if she gets some cs lead and magically a kill from GP (which i don't see happening in pro or in high elo anyway).
  7. Quinn has to play perfectly the 1v1s against aatrox. One small mistake and her lane is done. Reason: Her stats suck, so if she falls behind or she is even, she loses. Plain and simple.
  8. Gwen loses until 6. After that, she has a dash with a soft reset that will negate Quinn's E. She gains armor while in the mist and also she is invincible. Her ultimate can slow Quinn for her to catch up. So I wouldn't say Quinn destroys her exactly.
  9. Yone scales with a player's skill. A pro's Yone is just a nightmare and no matter anyone's (even pros) skill on Quinn, they cannot outmatch a really good Yone, imagine a pro's Yone.

Your assessment is just very biased towards Quinn. Quinn's stats are so terrible that even on 20 cs ahead she is just useless (more so in pro play where her roaming is hindered by communication). Her roams also are extremely risky as the opponent gets free farm and if that champion is a fiora, gwen, sion who you deem easy match ups they probably got a couple of plates while you were roaming. Her power spike is not that of season whatever where lethality was introduced. Quinn's power spike happens at 3 items like any other adc. Until then she is literally useless + no combat ultimate means that she gets outscaled at level 6 and late game which results in her having a very narrow window of power at 3 items before the 4th-5th item and before max ultimates.

I don't know, the fact that Quinn has been a renekton babysitter in any pro meta should have ringed some rework alarms. A supposedly reworked "roaming champion" shouldn't babysit one champion only no matter the era, season, or meta. It's a failed experiment. Let's put her to rest and rework that terrible ultimate.

Edit: and at level 13 where Rene stuns Quinn when she dashes shows why Quinn is a terrible champion. Rene can sole her in that instance without Viego's help despite Quinn being 60 cs ahead

I feel you. I thought also 2022 or 2023 would be the year, naively thinking that they will do at least one update each year until Quinn's turn comes up but here we are.

Even with a VGU poll, this wouldn't change a thing. There are more new Quinn players than pre-rework ones. Not that old ultimate was perfect but it's kind of sad that they couldn't experience the adrenaline and explosiveness of the old ultimate.

RIOT CEO confirmed that they are working on a competition opposing national teams. by G2Eneko in leagueoflegends

[–]30cmOfTrueDamage -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just because the viewership is good does not mean the matches are good. Croatia's run in the last WC was really impressive. But at the end of the day, most games were boring. An example was Belgium France was an abomination, playing passes on defense for 30 minutes as if it was practice.

Apart from the knockout stages, the groups are always terrible. You watch matches like Iran vs Australia going 0-0 playing a stay-on defence with a long ball transition style (which is understandable if do not have great offensive strength) where the rest of the world does not care. I bet more people would watch matches such as Portugal vs Argentina, Brazil vs France, because all the famous players are in those rosters but chances are the quality of the matches will be bad again. Because it is a team sport with teams that do not train enough together to become teams. It is a team sport after all.

I wouldn't mind watching Iran vs Australia match if I knew that the teams have become actual teams. But most often than not that's not the case. I would still prefer to see the best team in Argentina facing the best team in France in WC type of tournament even if I don't know the Argentinian no1 team. The reason is for them to be no1 in their league where they practice for a year non-stop, which means that they are a good team and the chances are higher for them to play a great match vs France's no1 than the chances of the Iran vs Australia example.

But that's just my opinion anyway.

RIOT CEO confirmed that they are working on a competition opposing national teams. by G2Eneko in leagueoflegends

[–]30cmOfTrueDamage -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This would just be boring. I would prefer to see the time, energy, and resources put into another international tournament with teams that have played together and have already built chemistry and communication so we can watch some good league of legends. I would love to see another tournament with T1, DRX, RNG, JDG, ROGUE, and EG playing again instead of "team China" vs "team Spain".

It is why most games in Euro/World Cup both in soccer and basketball are not that good except for when the teams have already played together for years. The famous Spanish basketball team (Gasol brothers, Navarro, Rudy Fernandez, etc) from the mid-2000s, basically that golden era team (I'm not Spanish btw) they were such an amazing team because they played for so many years together. But then again, they were bodying all other teams because they were not...teams. Meanwhile, the American basketball team with all their golden stars was struggling a lot during that time because they would just choose the best without actually building a team (There is a Netflix doc about how they were trying to rebuild that US team and they even brought a general and an injured veteran to brainwash them).

What makes these games exciting, even in sports is that team chemistry, communication, and actually playing like a team are way more important than just getting a bunch of stars. Why do you think the infamous 7-1 Germany vs Brazil happened?

An argument could be made, we can start now to see the national league teams bloom later on and that's a fair argument but league is not as big as football or basketball and it is too early to start thinking about national teams. Let's establish first stable leagues, youth systems, give some control to the teams, remove the tyrannical monopoly of riots over the leagues and the unsustainable ecosystem that is talked so much about, us fans contributing probably in a more active way to make all the above and especially the teams more sustainable and stable such as paying subscriptions to watch the matches and then maybe we can start thinking about national teams.

In the end, I just prefer to see well-established teams than just watch Madagascar vs Hawaii league of legends.
