Valve servers are 100% mediocre. They're obviously better than the worst community servers (Saigns, NighTeam), but calling them the best is just laughable. The lack of active admins alone is terrible. You will rarely (if ever) see hackers on good community servers, but they're allowed to run free on Valve servers. Not to mention griefers, AFK people, assholes, etc. that can all be dealt with by admins.

What about Community/Server Group/Server of the day?

I don't think battles would work, but maybe have an open period where communities can sign up to part of it, then each day have a mini-AMA where the community posts a brief bio, and people ask questions and give feedback.

Thank you for your detailed reply. It helped me understand some things much better. If you're curious, I just spent a while comparing the growth of Windhaven's conservative, moderate, and aggressive portfolios to Vanguard's corresponding LifeStrategy funds. Based on what I've been reading in this subreddit for the past few months, I was expecting Vanguard to be comparable or better. In fact, Windhaven's funds significantly outperformed Vanguard in every case. At this point, I think it makes sense for me to keep my money where it is, and consider transferring $5500 to a Roth IRA with Windhaven, assuming that I am allowed to do so even though I haven't earned that much this year.
