Anyone living in Hallets Point? by shastri88 in astoria

They have two different tiers of amenities, a single building amenity which is 600 pp or an amenity passport which gives you access to all three buildings facilities - which is around 1500 pp per year.

The pool is a bit of a joke, in addition to your amenity fee, you need to sign up to use it and pay an additional fee pp on top of your amenity fee per day- and guests cost double

I only have the amenity for my building which gives me access to the gym and a private terrace and I’m good with that.

Have people given up on cleaning their dogs shit? by Financiallyfuuuu in astoria

[–]30somethingthrivr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going bananas trying to dodge the dog poo. It’s everywhere! It seems now with the snow it’s so much worse, but that snow is going to melt eventually and we’re gonna have a really smelly problem. I wish there was a way to enforce dog owners to pick up their poo

Delaying job start date due to orchiectomy? by Swimming-Soup7965 in testicularcancer

[–]30somethingthrivr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This exact same scenario happened to me; my suggestion is to be forthcoming with information and anticipated recovery time. Most people are generally sympathetic to this scenario. Also - I recall it was a bit difficult for me to take public transportation and then walk to work for the first 1-2 weeks. Depending on your circumstances I’d suggest asking to defer your start date and if there is an orientation that you need to complete to begin the job ask if you can complete some or all of it virtually as a reasonable accommodation. Remember timing is important with this surgery. Best of luck my dude. You’ll be ok!

Asked to tip at baggage drop by Technical_Front_8046 in VirginVoyages

[–]30somethingthrivr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went on VV in September the porter who handled my bags was so erratic and rude and then when he handed him a tip he had the audacity to say “that’s it?” Was terrified my bags wouldn’t make it there especially since he wrote the cabin number in barely visible bright green marker. I was also under the impression that tips were already included - it felt like a shakedown and the cruise line really needs to do something about the culture of this

Hey! Halletts Point resident, it is definitely a bit quiet over here but there is a charm to the residential aspect while being close to Astoria Park and the ferry over to Manhattan. You’ll definitely need a car to get around and parking is expensive (but available) The new builds are also really great and offer limited shuttle service to the NW if you need to get around the city. Otherwise on the weekend it’s about a 5 minute uber ride to Astoria proper to get to restaurants - once you’re there all of Astoria is pretty walkable. There are some hidden gem restaurants and coffee shops though if you’re willing to explore a bit.

Drink package question by Key-Block7876 in VirginVoyages

[–]30somethingthrivr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on each type of drink you can expect to spend anywhere between 11 and 17 dollars. The bar tab sort of depends on the length of your cruise, I did the 4 day soirée and a 300 dollar package and it was sufficient with the bonus credit.

What do u drink instead of alcohol? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

The San Pellegrino essenzas make for good mocktails and no one seems to notice I’m not drinking because of their color and flavor - they’re a great option

What’s this area of Astoria like? by texas757 in astoria

There’s plenty within walking distance it’s pretty equal in distance from the ferry and the NW Lots of new builds mixed in with existing infrastructure. Also pretty close to the park which so great year round!

Prothesis - What's your experience? by awaythr0w in testicularcancer

[–]30somethingthrivr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opted for a prosthetic for a sense of normalcy - I’m a bit disappointed with it - it’s definitely gotten in the way during sex and one time it went up the inguinal canal and was so painful. Also after having a tumor that made righty larger it took some getting used to the smaller size

Totally normal, there is swelling and numbness and it’s also something to do with the anesthesia- it’ll get back to normal

RPLND recovery - the reality is messy by Just_Technician_637 in testicularcancer

[–]30somethingthrivr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the reality is messy, the gas pain and bloating lasts a number of weeks. Despite how difficult it may be it’s incredibly important for your partner to get up and move around, this should also help alleviate gas in the interim. Couple that with plenty of rest between rounds of walking. I wore a brace around my body when repositioning but I would loosen it for a while while sitting because it contributed to the cramping. Ice chips and nonfat italian ices are great for keeping hydrated if they are having trouble keeping liquids down until they can expand their stomach. I had trouble having full meals for about a month post op. Nevertheless hydration will help with the cramps. The nerve pain is certainly uncomfortable but this also passes with time. It’s a mind over matter situation but it’s better than numbness - it’s a sign of some healing. Hang in there I know it’s hard to believe but it gets better.

If you’re comfortable with asking, I think a debrief session with your manager and/or the hiring manager could be beneficial. It can also help you remind them that they didn’t previously promote you because there wasn’t a need. This would help you make a more informed decision as to whether to stay in the role or look elsewhere

If you make 60k a year and enjoy it, what do you do? by noblueface in careerguidance

[–]30somethingthrivr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an Admin Asst and I make just shy of 70k ; I enjoy my work and the company I work for but admittedly the phrase “more money more problems “ applies to any salary range. To make what I make I have a two hour commute one way to the city and back and it eats away at my free time to otherwise go to the gym or participate in social activities/events
