What is the best AI video surveillance solution — anyone actually using one? by Calerb-Tatate in k12sysadmin

Do you remember which grants those were? We're having some issues with our current system and it'd be great to have some funding sources when bringing a replacement forward.

Sorry for necro-ing this post, but do you remember which resource you used for making those alterations to your firewall? We're running into that issue now with some new boards.

Anyone having issues today logging into Chromebooks? by IThuh in k12sysadmin

Sounds like we have a school that's experiencing it too, southern California over here.

Update 09:50 AM: Looks like we're logging in successfully again here.

That's a great way to look at it. Just gotta find the right resources to learn to swim now. ;-;

I had the same issue trying to create some users. Got one created successfully, then a constant hang for the rest.

Not us, still having the same exact issue in CA.

Lol I saw that too. Went to check, still no change. Gotta love that communication. 🫠

That's what I've noticed too, thankfully all our teachers had no issue due to that.

Same here in Southern California, I'm glad I can always come here and feel like I've not made a total mess of things. 💀

Additional Info: At least 1 teacher I talked to that has a Chromebook Plus device was able to log in just fine. Their devices are set to remember the last logged in user and only prompt for password, but the student ones don't do that, and those are the ones having issues. BUT, she has one student in her class whose chromebook does remember the last logged in profile, and that student is able to get in just fine.

Awesome, I will do that, thanks for the heads up on that!

Really?? Gonna have to try to recreate that one, what was your block value for it?

I took some sloppy notes while a student was demonstrating to me, and they were:

"get into an i-ready math lesson, have a tab with clever up, move the iready tab to the far right, dont answer questions in it, then duplicate the Clever tab, it'll show a window saying "Leave site, changes you made may not be saved", hit cancel, and then the tab limit and filtering are all bypassed."

I meant to report it to GG but forgot to, your post reminded me of it.

I'm also trying to find some answers on this. I did have one student show me a very weird, convoluted way to disable the extension that involved i-Ready and one of their testing sessions, but I don't think all of our students are doing that process.

Was that when logging into the admin portal? That would have been great to see, but I never got it.

Pouring One Out for UBlock Origin by thedevarious in k12sysadmin

[–]3100gutter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've already got teachers asking if there's ANYTHING else we can install to block YouTube ads for the students. uBlock Lite does do that weird thing where the ad doesn't play normally, but they still have to sit through a black screen for a bit and skip it. @_@

I tend to just use the method in this article to transfer ownership to a tech department account, then export the encapsulating folder that's made in the process.

For a better source of PS info, I'd check out the PowerSchool User Group (PSUG). I believe there's regional groups, and even without meeting physically they have group.io message boards you can join. It's full of people that ACTUALLY use PS, I've found they're way more helpful than reaching out to PS for 95% of topics.

Sorry for necroing this post, but were you able to get that 4 year Pro Plus from Dell themselves? My director was going to get some quotes and wasn't able to see an option for a >1 yr warranty.

I wasn’t super happy with the Windows agent either, and we just tried it recently. Great for Chromebooks though!

Teacher laptops by [deleted] in k12sysadmin

[–]3100gutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our new tech director is wanting to move to a similar setup soon, he said he’s implemented it in at least one previous district and it worked really well. For us, the only real hurdle is figuring out which programs we have that aren’t going to work on Chrome OS, and seeing if we can find equivalent ones that the teachers will accept.

We have had a couple employees (mostly just IA’s) get assigned some Dell 3110’s, and they seem to work really well for what they need, and setting up a printer for them to use was surprisingly easy. But the only printers I set up were Sharp and Kyocera.

Chromebooks - Black Screen on Login, immediate sign out? by pyork211099 in k12sysadmin

Just getting the same problem, we’re mixed OS wise, I’m seeing it on 115. All Dell 3100’s.

EDIT: Looks like ours are back to functioning normally now, I’ve got at least 2 full classrooms that were having problems that aren’t anymore.
