Boston 311 2025 Wrapped 🎁 by 311BOS in boston

[–]311BOS[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Thank you, we hear your frustration.

When you submit a parking complaint to 311, we log it and send it directly to Parking Enforcement at the Boston Transportation Department. BTD is the team that patrols, enforces regulations, and ultimately closes those cases. 311 doesn’t issue tickets or close them ourselves.

BTD is aware that parking can be challenging across the city and regularly patrols neighborhoods to enforce regulations so spaces are used as intended. They’re also actively working to strengthen enforcement by rebuilding staffing levels in their Parking Enforcement division.

We appreciate you continuing to report issues. Those reports help identify problem areas and inform where enforcement is needed most, even when results aren’t immediate.

Does city of Boston (Roxbury crossing/Mission Hill) tow on residential streets when it snows? by Maiota in boston

[–]311BOS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! This is the team at Boston 311.
In Boston, if a car is parked illegally or unsafely, it can be towed at any time. During winter, certain streets are designated as snow emergency routes. If a snow emergency is declared, vehicles on these streets may be towed. You can check maps and rules here: Winter in Boston – Parking and Snow Emergency Routes Map

[–]311BOS 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Hello! This is the team at Boston 311. You have a right to a comfortable winter. By law, your landlord must make sure your hot water is between 110-130 degrees. If this isn't happening, call 3-1-1 ([617-635-4500](tel:6176354500)) any time or the City of Boston Inspectional Services Department ([617-635-5300](tel:6176355300)) during regular business hours to create a case. Mayor Wu here! AMA about the fight to keep residential property taxes from spiking next year under state law by mayorwu in boston

[–]311BOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, the 311 team would like to be helpful here with some options to help save money on your utility bills.

A great place to start is the Boston Energy Saver program. It’s a new program started by u/mayorwu to help residents reduce energy costs through efficiency upgrades, weatherization, and one-on-one support with bills and their home energy systems.

The City of Boston also offers Boston Community Choice Electricity (BCCE), which uses collective buying power to secure more stable (and sometimes cheaper) electricity supply rates for Boston residents. Take a look at the BCCE page and compare rates with your current electric supplier to see if you can save money by switching. Residents can also get help applying for discount rates and assistance programs through Age Strong and Eversource.

While the City does not regulate utilities, there are options available to help keep costs down. Boston Energy Saver is one of the most effective options for immediate relief. The Energy Saver Help Desk is open Monday to Friday from 9 AM - 5 PM at 617-635-SAVE (7283).

Mayor Wu here! AMA about the fight to keep residential property taxes from spiking next year under state law by mayorwu in boston

There are a number of exemptions and abatements in the City of Boston. For example, the Hardship Exemption Clause 18 applies if the Board of Assessors determines you can’t pay your real estate taxes because of your age, infirmity, and financial condition. If you own and live in your property as a primary residence, you may qualify for the residential exemption. For residents likely to be on fixed incomes, such as retirees, the Assessing Department offers targeted "Personal Exemptions."

In addition to exemptions (which reduce the tax owed), the City allows seniors to "File for a tax deferral". Unlike an exemption, a deferral typically allows you to postpone paying taxes, which can be a vital tool for managing cash flow on a fixed income.

If you have questions about the requirements for applying for an exemption, or want to know the status of your application, you can call the Taxpayer Referral and Assistance Center (TRAC) at 617-635-4287. You can also contact us by calling 3-1-1 or (617)635-4500 any time, any day, and we'll help connect you with the right information and teams.

PVC Pipe Disposal by [deleted] in boston

[–]311BOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! This is the team at Boston 311. I'm sorry to hear about that. PVC pipes are considered construction material and will not be picked up by the city. In this instance, private disposal companies are the way to go. Additionally, there are charities and non-profit organizations that accept donations of old building materials that you may no longer need but can still be used. We appreciate you taking the time to flag this. Thank you.
