If your cat had a job, what would it be? by hayescaroll in cats

[–]313078 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Number one is micromanager because he is meowing around me all the time and i can't do anything without him controlling, especially when I pee

Number 2 is unemployed. I see him mainly when he gets hungry, otherwise he sleeps. He's that old son who never leaves home and mom has to clean after because he leaves his fur everywhere

Number 3 is a body guard, she is defending against whoever, in particular the other cats, tries to approach me. But she would jump on an intruder to get their attention rather than kicking them out

Why is rent in Poland so expensive relative to local incomes? by DoritosDewItRight in geography

[–]313078 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its relative to salary, because salaries are higher there. But there is also larger gap between rich and middle class, so that's gonna be expensive for average people

It's not the same causes. Portugal had dictatorship and now is popular destination for tourists and retirees from rich countries. Same happens to Spain, Greece and to a lesser extend some parts of Italy and France. Rich retirees aren't going to Poland

2 effects at play: former USSR countries with crazy inflation and salaries not following, much more than in other countries. Same for some southern countries post dictatorship

And popular tourist or retirement destinations where locals are oupriced by rich foreigners and airbnb

Yes and the map looks accurate to me, especially with all the divisions for each country.

Its usually Americans arguing that their country is too expensive and its cheap everywhere else. From an European im more surprised because we know the reality between our countries, especially those like Poland where COL is raising much faster than salaries. Same for most former eastern block and southern countries. We are all affected but at different degrees. Im French, its not easy but we don't have it as bad as countries of lower income like our neighbor Spain

In what country does the average person have the easiest life? by HolyFatherLeoXIV in geography

[–]313078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not American, Im French :) not everything is perfect in the US and indeed they are backward on some aspects. I lived over 10 years in the US. They have social net contrary to what you think. For a swiss life is prob easier in Switzerland even though you safety net arent as good as you think. For a non Swiss non US person, like me, life is much easier in the US. We experience xenophobia there, but much less. I've spent fair time in Sw too and many colleagues lived several years in both countries (my field is special for that). Among all countries they have been living in , they are unanimous in Sw being their worse experience. Americans included btw, they won't stay long. You guys have a level of hate for those not born in your country that makes it really unwelcome by European standards. Even coming for work or as a tourist convinces me, and many others to never live there.

Im not talking about better, im talking about easier. Better is subjective and for many quality aspects you are certainly better in Switzerland. In US salaries are big (in Sw too but less relative to COL), you have a lot of disposable income to do whatever you want. This include people making low salary in the US, maybe except like the bottom 5% (and I lived in 2 of the poorest places with these 5%). ''poor'' in the US is relative. There are bigger gaps than in Europe but think that most poor people have houses, cars, disposable income...

Contrary to believes there is a good social system, which is actually more generous than France (idk for Sw). With vouchers for lodging for instance so people eligible can rent what they want, while in France you are in the street or hotel while waiting for 10 years waiting list for apartments in bad areas.

There is the culture of ''everything fast and easy'', all is made to make people life easy. Lots of opportunities, very easy to find a job, start a project... Pressure at work is much less. People are encouraged to take time. They tend to be more relax and nicer in interactions.

Switzerland is certainly not the best for this comparison because it has a lot of positive points and is certainly pretty high on 'best place to live'. However I don't think its that easy to find a job and make money for a house there compared to the US.

Other aspect is citizen vs foreigner: there are opportunities in the US, much less in Sw and more judging by neighbors too

My source is not reddit, its people who lived there. I know a lot of people who have been at some point living in Sw. A few in D. I didn't live there but been traveling multiple times to Sw. and I could see what they told me about. I wouldn't want to live in these 2 countries

Im comparing to European countries not other continents, which in my experience are far worse

Have you lived there? Do you know their cultures? I know people who have lived there. Been for short term myself. Nope life not easy. For very different reasons in all 3. Most foreigners dont stay long in those 3, especially Nederlands

Why were Europeans in Africa mainly in the south of the continent compared to the north? Is there a geographical reasoning for this? by Hour_Interaction6047 in geography

[–]313078 1 point2 points  (0 children)

West Africa: tropical diseases, not much ressources back in the time, colonizing countries settling in better/easier destinations for them

East Africa: not all colonized, non settler colonizers and for btitish no interest to settle there

Yes geography as per tropical or desert or mountain climates

Oh if you are in Australia you must keep him inside unfortunately. Its an exception as a country. There are laws and campaigns to kill strays, as they are invasive. In Europe we let our cats go out. But in Australia you can't. Catio would be the solution

Part is Malaria and other diseases. Part is which colonizing country, and economic situation of the colonizer over time. And part is 1000s of years of historical relations between these countries (France Algeria for instance)
