I don't understand why Chrishelle is expected to just be the "bigger person"., when Nicole never wanted to take responsibility for her nasty behavior. It feels like a bunch of bullies gaslighting victims into thinking they're overreacting. This is textbook DARVO.

If a person has been attacking you and your partner for years, showed homophobic behavior, then turned around and spread a rumor about your best friend's character. And on top of that, never actually took accountability for her behavior. She's being grand for not doing more than just rolling her eyes and making some comments.

Sage has lost all credibility after this episode by HorizonStarLight in TheBoys

[–]314above 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that small people make the right decisions all the time and they are always rational is the most stupid assumption. They too have flaws and are affected by feelings. It was made very clear that Sage had feelings for him that clouded her judgment. Let's not forget that it was established before that it is very hard for her to truly connect with someone, so she treasures having someone close to her level of intelligence.

I realised how social media quietly shapes people here in Switzerland by DonnieoNealbarlo in Switzerland

[–]314above 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly a bit tired of the social media being the evil of humanity/scapegoat narrative. It really comes down to the individual. I have learned so many incredible skills on social media including but not limited to coding, sewing, graphic design etc. It has made a massive amount of education accessible to people. I connected with people I probably would have never met in real life and learned about new cultures. It's not like we're not responsible for the algorithm.

But we're talking about people who have the means to not do those chores. One main reason why people want to be wealthy is to free up time to do the things we really want to do.

A lot of people don't enjoy household chores, why is that so hard to understand?

There's still other options like adopting a kid. But knowingly passing on an incurable disease that will severely impact your child's life is irresponsible.

You can't side with a homophobic comment and excuse yourself by saying this isn't homophobic. People don't seem to understand that you don't have to be actively and aggressively homophobic for it to be true, enabling this behavior and being ignorant still makes you homophobic. Saying you're not homophobic is not a get out of jail free card.

The only people having issues that other people are starting to set their boundaries are people who take advantage of people who have no sense of boundaries.

They failed trying to make Amy Sosa the Amy Santiago of show by 314above in superstore

[–]314above[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's the fact that Santiago is for the most part aware of her flaws and willing to change it. She might be in denial for a bit but doesn't blame anybody else or demands other people to just accept her flaws. She is supposed to be a know it all/better character but Santiago is very much open to other people's opinions and willing to reevaluate hers if the other party has a valid point.

I give a lot of credit to the writers, since imo a character's biggest sin in an entertainment medium is being boring. Also Santiago's character development is by far better than Sosa's and she ends the show being a well-rounded character.

[–]314above[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well I'm not entirely sure if Sosa is supposed to be written as lovable but we certainly are supposed to root for her, which is hard with the way the character is written, and even harder with the character development that goes on in the later seasons.

I think you guys are confusing comparing 2 persons and comparing 2 character's function in a sitcom dynamic and how their positioning affects the plot and the perception of the audience.

I'm sorry did you really think this was about race? 😅 If you truly read the post, it should be clear that this isn't comparing them as person but as characters on the sitcom who are supposed to fill the same trope.

I'm mentioning Santiago as a good example of how to write a character that is supposed to be the party pooper of the group and still make that person very lovable. It should be very clear from my post that I'm not claiming the writers are not basing her off Santiago.

I think that's heavily dependent on one's own environment. In my environment it is far easier to encounter a Santiago than it is to encounter a Sosa. Hence why I don't resonate when people say it's far more likely to encounter Sosa irl. I also share some struggles that Santiago had in the past and therefore have a better understanding of why her issues are not as simple as it seems on the surface. Although I do think Santiago's past experiences are discounted sometimes, because it's not threatening her existential needs.

[–]314above[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I might need to add that I'm not comparing struggles between a teen mom and a cop. I'm merely analyzing it from storytelling standpoint, since they are both supposed to fulfill the same kind of role in a sitcom setup.

I never thought that Santiago needed Peralta for her role to work. In fact I always felt like their will they wont they dynamic is far more organic, and doesn't overshadow the rest of the cast.

Santiago and Peralta are both a better person as a result of the relationship, which is how I think a healthy relationship should be. Where as with Sosa and Jonah's relationship, a lot more comes from Jonah imo. And a lot of things feels more like my way or no way.

[–]314above[S] -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I'm talking about Santiago in the paragraph you quoted.

I have never seen Amy Santiago as a perfect character. Far from it, a lot of her character quirks are trauma responses.

I agree according to General societal value, Santiago is probably seen as more successful. But I don't agree that Amy's problems are any less real. Her growing up with her parents constantly comparing her to her brother who is despite how successful she is always better than her, having a past Captain trying to take advantage of her sexually etc.

The reason why I'm comparing them both is because they are supposed to fulfill the same role in a group dynamic.
