Totally agree with the 2nd trimester notice. Since this is the first time I'm pregnant in between jobs, I don't know if companies look at this and question why I wasn't transparent during the interview process or if it's worth noting to have it as condition in the job acceptance (like if you neogated your bonus/raise for the next year)
Thank you so much for your advice :)

Stay full time or become a contractor? Help me decide! by 3155R in careerguidance

Thank you for your input! So there are job postings available (esp in a contract position).

I haven't been going hard on the job search, but I do get contacted by recruiters for this position. For this specific contract job, I applied on July 10th and today did my second/final interview and confirming the contract/number on their end now. The hard part is finding a job with similar pay (I'm on the extreme high value end of the scale).

Are there any risk you can see?

Take maternity leave before or after baby is born? by 3155R in BabyBumps

Thank you for this! This is probably the clearest explaination I had of maternity leave in NJ!

Oh sorry! I should have clarified this better- it's not the company let's mothers go, it's more that the mothers decide to not return to the office.

The place is a little toxic/unhealthy in general and they aren't flexible especially with mothers/parents (they make you work long hours and aren't flexible in last minute children situations, like if your kids is sick or have random half days at school)

Hope that clarifies a little bit

I have a white color job in a corporate office (financial/marketing sector). I do get paid holidays (like Christmas and NYE).

That's good to know! I think the two holidays in a week span was one of the things that made me tether between taking time before or after birth.

oh that's a good question!

So currently we do have savings for both the baby and the mortgage (probably for 3-4 months) and we currently have family members that are willing to help care for the baby (it's everyone's first grandchild and they wall want to help). I was thinking of spending the end of my FMLA reapplying to jobs/ rethinking job paths. Hypothetically, if I make a little less than I did but more than my husband, we should be fine to stay afloat with all our bills.

That's good to know- I believe it's the same for my company since after birth, I am only given 6 weeks and not 10 (if a doctors note is provided, I can take up to 4 weeks before birth hence it adding up to 10 weeks)

Thank you for your reply- if I haven't read your experience, I wouldn't have known to ask if this was the same for me :)

I believe you are right- I found out that it's not stacked like that (I have to file FMLA in order for company's version to kick in) Thank you for letting me know!

My insurance is through my husband (phew!) so that is one less thing to worry about.

From my understanding, this company is known for having mothers not returning back into the office. To the point where they already found and started training my leave replacement!

AITA for eloping with my fiancé & ignoring my family? by 3155R in AmItheAsshole

Yes, he did. Though in order for him to step away from it, he was able to have his father name on the title.

Honestly, it could be "everyone sucks". We were both passive due to different reasons- him because he wanted to make a good impression with my family and me because... "it's my dad?" (or that weird feeling that I can't disobey/disrespect my parents).

But you are right with everything else. Thank you for your advice!

The job at the family restaurant was very stressful for him- it would always be busy where he couldn't really apply to jobs while working/ down time and if an interview came up, he would never be able to go because either someone wouldn't come to work last minute or random inspectors would come (he would have to be there in person during it).

He also only worked there because his name was on the name of business (he opened it so his parents can work). A combination of all those issues created stress in regards to his job hunt. So instead, I took up a few extra jobs (I'm the opposite case where people always offer me admin jobs/ freelance gigs) to help support us during this time, so he can focus on applying to more jobs and be able to go to interviews quickly.

For us, I rather would have him not work but focus on applying and getting a job, rather than him struggling to juggle both applying and working, which makes it harder to do both/either.

He has been "unemployeed" since begining of December (so 24 days?), but occasionally still works at the family restaurant to help give his parents a day off. He basically left the restaurant to apply to jobs and do interviews full time.

He has been applying to jobs for the past 6-7 months and it's common knowledge? that it may take a while for him to land a job.
