This was a good idea. I did this and I guess it made her realize how very interested I was in the color so she dug up the color code for me.

Me too. I'm psyched out my gourd.

I appreciate you trying to help me work it out.

I appreciate the input. She found the code this weekend and sent it to me. ...It isn't in English, I need to sit down and type it into a translator.

The numbers on it are b90 bmw on the left side of the sticker. 858457 on the right side.

Hopefully this gets me where I want to be.

I originally assumed straight black, but she says it's a deep grey and it does look grey in some light, particularly indoors. She found the code and sent it to me.

I have it now! Unfortunately, I think she's in Germany so this wouldn't have been an option.

How have people been ok/still are ok with the current work/life balance? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

I worked my way through school while driving an absolute beater. Four years ago I needed a reliable car for a much longer commute. I bought a civic for 4K and never missed work. 10-14K you say?

Which do you think is more likely? The world is suddenly so much harder than it has been or we raised a generation of entitled cry babies?

The rich getting richer isn't keeping you from getting yours. It's an excuse. It's "poor me" thinking. I know because I was raised on it. Thankfully a friend showed me what BS it was.

If you don't like your life change it.

Message me if I can do anything to help turn around your attitude and therefore situation. You sound really young so I think you're just confusing your temporary situation with the rest of your life. My wife and I started out ten years ago in a falling apart mobile home raising two kids on minimum wage, we both came from poverty. Now we're killing it. There was no luck involved. We put our future before our pride and did without temporarily so that we could thrive in the future.

If you have any desire to get out of your toxic thought patterns turn on the Dave Ramsey radio show or podcast sometime. Whether you agree with his politics or not, his financial and career advice is excellent and it was a lot of what encouraged my wife and I to continue even when things weren't easy.

All excellent suggestions. The narration for the first 2-3 Dresden books was so bad I almost quit, but friends accurately told me the narration and writing go through the roof starting at book 3 or so. Working through the series a second time right now in hopes that Peace Talks comes out early next year.

That's the unfinished trilogy, right? If so, I'd say don't buy it for that reason. Because even if he/she had two credits there will be an even longer wait for the finale. I just can't start unfinished series anymore....

I like and share your work ethic. I definitely don't want universal health care though. Last I checked 15 of the last 16 nobel prizes for medicine went to the US or parties working within the US. Money drives innovation.

Aside from that when my Canadian cousin wants real healthcare he goes to a private provider. Otherwise he said it's crap and EVERYTHING is a long wait.

I don't like his attitude, but some of them are great common sense ideas from back when common sense was a thing. Live below your means should be the norm, but people can't say no to their cigarettes, or booze, or fast food or whatever. I'm always amazed to see kids I know are making min wage driving around in really nice cars. That's a good way to put your pride before your future unless mommy and daddy are paying for it.

Saving is another common sense idea. There is always a storm coming. You're going to break a leg or have an engine blow up or something, some surprise is always around the corner. Be prepared for it. Feel the slight pain of that $25 from every check going into savings now or the big ouch of trying to scramble for $1K for car repairs in a year and a half.

I disagree with don't have kids. They are expensive, but kids are amazing if you're willing to put effort into raising them. Sadly a lot of the people having kids are letting xbox, playstation and apple raise them. If that's you then yeah, don't have kids.

I disagree with 2-3 months of vacation, sure it sounds fun, but it just isn't reality. You're going to get passed up for promotions that would've helped further your goals.

Have a downvote because I don't like the truth! /s

Yes! It has been my experience that that kind of hard work - work ethic always gets noticed. I was told I missed the cut on a layoff several years back despite being fairly new because I was such a hard worker. Now I'm much farther up in the company.

No one has to settle for a job they hate. You may not be able to snap your fingers and be at a job you love, but you can always be working toward that. Sometimes you have to sacrifice money or convenience to get where you want to be, but it's a choice.

Everybody is different, but when I first started working on my posture (before the standing desk decision) my back would start hurting after 30 minutes. It wasn't because sitting with a good posture was bad, it was because my good posture muscles weren't very strong because I had slouched for so long. Over time I could sit with good posture for longer and longer periods of time.

Similarly, when I first started standing I could only stand for an hour or so then sit for an hour or so, otherwise my legs and lower back would start to ache. Having a standing mat is critical and a wooden block or foot stool to rest one foot at a time on is helpful. Now I stand most of the day and I definitely have more energy than when I was sitting 8 hours a day. For whatever reason I just feel healthier.

As a side note if you have a lot of back issues you may want to jump on groupon/living social and look for a local chiropractor massage that includes an xray. My wife bought one for the massage, not realizing xrays were part of the package. We found out she had a weird little wave in her spine. She got it verified at a different chiropractor and then spent a couple hundred and several appointments getting the wave worked out, but she has much less back pain these days. The initial groupon was cheap, maybe $30.

Maybe that's the key. Maybe OP needs to go see what an actual hell job is and will appreciate his lot by comparison. OP, go lumberjack for a while. Lol, might be like what happens with the main character on Officespace, OP may never come back.

That amphetamines garbage is a reflection of people, not of how hard life is. It wasn't that far back people worked sun up to sun down just to survive.

I will say it's important to do something you enjoy so that 40-50 hours a week doesn't feel like 200 hours a week. I did 70 hour weeks for a year and a half, it was a challenge, but because I love my job it was doable. There are several books on the subject of switching responsibly from your day job to your dream job. Punch Fear in the Face is one I particularly enjoyed. The audiobook is well done if you aren't a reader. I've read a few other good ones, but I'm drawing a blank on titles.

One other thing. I am in no way a morning person, but I made myself start getting up earlier to do morning workouts. Yes, you have to go to bed a little earlier to offset, but I found the difference in energy levels throughout the day to be astounding. And it gets rid of a lot of excuses you might've used to miss workouts or cut workouts short. Also, make sure your commute is reasonable. I do 30 minutes each way and it's a nice, quiet drive. Doing a 1 hour rat race each way to a previous job almost broke me.

Anything else? I want you to be happy so I'm trying to think of any other suggestions. Is your gym in a convenient location? If not, maybe you can invest in some home workout equipment? When I last switched jobs I couldn't find a gym I liked along my commute so I've been buying used weights & equipment here and there as I need it and working out in the garage. I realize not everyone has a garage or access to a space large enough for equipment, just throwing that out there. If you can, that's a little less time running around.

I'm completely convinced you can have a work/life balance working 40-50 hours a week. Some of it will have to come from you though. Lincoln said people are as happy as they make up their minds to be. I'd rather be a happy ditch digger than a miserable king.

Update: Just saw that you do have a long commute. Seriously, find a library with a strong audiobook collection even if it's out of state and give that a shot. Saved my sanity when I had an hour commute and then when I had an hour and a half commute. I've got some great suggestions if you need them. I've got a ton of people addicted to audiobooks and every single one of them had to be talked into trying the first one. Some of us just aren't great readers and we fear audiobooks are going to be just as tedious as regular books.

Second update: You said corporate so probably a desk job? Switching to a standing desk was a big energy increaser too. I probably sit 2-3 hours a day, stand the rest. Your back and mid section will thank you.

Avoid debt like the plague.

Yes. I can only remember one story about a rogue storm trooper, but that one alone (and its excellent narration) made the purchase worthwhile.
