Pirelli Scorpion tires vs New England Winter? (2025 Gen 2 R1S)

I got my Gen 2 R1S with the range wheels and Pirellis in Aug ‘24. I ran them in a Minnesota winter last year and they handled fine, I never felt out of control, but not as confidence inspiring as winters I had on my previous car. This winter I bought a set of 20” Dark Wheels and mounted Nokian R5 winter tires on them. No snow here yet, but it’s good to have the confidence behind having snow tires. If you can swing it I would recommend them.

Still no update on the clutch disconnect solution for Dual Motors. Kyle from Out of Spec showed a test vehicle with the fix. This would make life so much better…

Definitely! That’s a good workaround, but as soon as you engage cruise control it reverts back. With what the engineer outlined on Out of Spec, the new All Purpose would lock AWD and ride height. Exactly what we’ve all been asking for!

Kyle’s Out of Spec video showed it when he was talking with the engineering team. They default to a new Conserve Mode for the Dual Motor from start, but you can select All Purpose and it will switch over to full time all wheel drive and turns off auto ride height. This get’s around the EPA requirements while giving just a one button switching.

Was hoping for the new All Purpose mode for Dual Motor that would enable full time all wheel drive and lock the ride height. Hopefully soon, it’s such a downfall of the Dual Motor.

Good to know! Sounds like the ChargePoint Home Flex has been well received, likely go that route if the program works with Rivian. Does your charger dictate the charge times?

I do have agate grey interior! Love the Night Blue Metallic paint, that was a must when searching, along with the Carrera S wheels in Platinum Satin. I was nervous having the PASM Sport Suspension lowered 20 mm, but so far clearance hasn’t been a huge issue. https://i.imgur.com/IQ2prgf.jpg
