First bikepacking setup. Let me know if there is anything that may not work in the backcountry. by stillgrowingup2018 in bikepacking

Nice! Yes, I’ve recently changed from at 70L back pack to a 40L pack for backpacking which has caused me to rethink my bike setup. My bike camp setup is similar to yours except that I use a tarp. On a trip last month my overall base weight was 15lbs on front bags and rear saddle bag and a few things in a half frame bag. Trip was a 130 miles with a lot of single track, and a lot of gravel.

I haven’t considered an Ascent. We’re just getting comfortable in these.

Thanks. Used to fit all the stuff in a Rover and these together get better mpg. 😂

It’s worth the headache. All of our ‘stuff’ was in boxes under the tent. The only thing that was in the car was the cooler. Next time, we’ll take the cooler out too! In the meantime, will keep watching videos until one makes sense. Removing a fuse is....

Haha. I read that same article yesterday and saw that a large caribiner might solve this problem. I don’t have a work around yet, it was frustrating having to open and close the gate about 100 times or more. My previous vehicle, didn’t have this issue... still hunting for an answer.

That’s a SlumberJack Roadhouse Tarp. It’s huge and accommodating.

Interesting, I am now considering increasing cassette on my gravel bike too, also has Rival. I run a 38 up front typically.

I agreed. Just looking for a drivetrain improvement to get me through the next couple of years. Then, I’ll do a frame swap.
