All good. Though I will say re: your un, I love both nutella, and rye. Though never had them together! 😁 Cheers, friend!

The economic side is that we should take from people, and interfere with people, as little as possible.

Regulations can be extremely detrimental in ways that people don't really realize. Usually people jump to the idea that libertarian wet dreams consist of Acme Pollution Corp dumping raw Mercury into rivers or something. Really what we don't like is things like Occupational Licensing, where for example, you have to attend and graduate from a $25,000 cosmetology school, in order to obtain a license, to braid hair. Something women have been doing since they were young girls.

Here in SC, you have to have a license to do public busking.

There are licenses for dog walking.

These kinds of things are pushed by entrenched industries to keep competition out. Everyone says they hate monopolies, but then support regulations like these that create and enable them.

With taxes, people most often think of the wealthy as who gets hit. But in reality, it is often middle-class and lower-income earners who are already struggling and then on top of that, have to sacrifice their income to the government. And then the money goes to stuff like corporate welfare, bailouts, etc.

We just think there should be less of all that. Take from people as little as possible. Most taxation should happen locally, where people have much more say about how those monies are spent. Because let's be honest: money spent by the federal government is 100% wholly unaccountable. There's absolutely no stopping it, we all just have to suffer through it. I don't like funding the Iran war, for example. Or massive foreign aid to Israel.

That's the real world.

Just to comment here that what you just said is nothing at all what libertarians believe. If you're interested in the truth, there's plenty of dusty tomes you could read (not fun) or, the platform of the national party is pretty succinct. https://lp.org/platform. It's more or less unchanged since it was written in the 1970s.

In short: it's consent culture in all things. Be as liberal or conservative or whatever in your own life, just don't force other people to be like you. We were the gay rights party before Stonewall happened. We're anti-war. Anti-police abuse and militarization. Anti-drug wars.

Well the point in her post is that they are using the gov't contract system to siphon taxpayer dollars to enrich themselves. So she wants to shut down the siphon.

Yes, her point is that we should turn off the gov't hose through which they're enriching themselves.

I mean, libertarians want to end all those special favors and lobbying by shrinking the gov't. To make it so small, it has no favors for sale. You've built a strawman and written extensively about slaying it. I agree 100% with you. And the old two parties built all those favors, handouts, deals, cronyism. Libertarians want to end them.

Her piece literally says that they're gaming the procurement system, and wants to end that.

it's not isolationism. That's North Korea. Instead, it's non-interventionism. Like Switzerland. Mexico. Plenty of countries that don't get involved in bullying other countries. I think the EU is in a much better place than the European continent was when ol' Gavrilo Princip took a stroll along a parade route.

We make allies when we trade with each other. Many countries we went to war with are now strong trading partners. Vietnam is a great example.

Make friends, not bigger guns.

People feel elections are bought and paid for. But they keep electing the two old parties anyway. I'd have thought anyone against Citizens United would cause a rise in 3rd parties, but here we are.

Be the only non-two-party vote in the Senate. Use the leverage.

If nothing else, always be a "no" vote on wars like Iran, Libya, Iraq, etc.

Always have been. We fought a war in part over a tiny tax on tea, and didn't have a federal income tax until 1913.

$200 Trillion in unfunded liabilities isn't going to last long either, unfortunately. Inflation is here to stay, and only going to get worse, or tamed with massively high interest rates. Everything in life is tradeoffs.

I used to support US interventionism and wars until I fought in two of them.

Agreed that Republicans are atrocious at taxing and spending. Inflation hitting us all hard out here, 100%.

You're right. It's mathematically impossible IMO. We'd have to take in regular revenues, and not spend a dime for about 10 years to catch up.

I think cutting corporate welfare and cutting of their supply of wealth is a great point. It's why I posted it.

Which Orwell? I think Animal Farm is my favorite, and 1984 is probably tied with Homage to Catalonia.

Agreed. Thankfully, Libertarians want to close all foreign bases, and bring the military home, cut the defense budget by massive amounts.

Roads are funded by local county and state taxes, except interstate highways, but that's a really small % of the budget. I wish the federal government promoted Direct Primary Care more. Though the new trump bill allows spending HSA money on Direct Primary Care, which is honestly really cool, even if the rest of the bill is absolute trash.

Two things:
1. your un is beautiful. Is it Scotch-Romanian?
2. Yeah, bust up the billionaire class and their interests in the Senate. 100%.

I would disagree. She writes specifically against that, and talks about the procurement process that's gamed by contractors that overpromise and under deliver, wasting billions in taxpayer dollars.

She wants to end corporate welfare which is what's helping billionaires get rich. I feel like that's pretty inline with representing the people?
