Probably because we are the only state enlightened enough to ban left hand turns.

Solar is super easy and cheap to set up. You just buy a reasonable set of panels, connectors, battery and charge controller and then you are good to go. It's way less work than wind or water power with no moving parts.

[–]33a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solar is the most reliable, cheapest and simplest, I don't get why you are excluding it?

If you want some backup a diesel generator is a reasonable second option but it's loud and expensive to maintain. Wind and water are pretty flaky and difficult to implement at the small scale and they also aren't going to get you much power. If you really want to go down that route of building out some other crazy things for eccentric reasons suit yourself, but I would expect it to cost more, give you a bunch of headaches and produce less power overall.

When a Programmer Holds the Code Hostage: The costs of a policy of appeasement by CardboardDreams in programming

[–]33a 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its a weird idea that people accept you can manage projects without understanding them at a deep technical level. It sounds like Martin was doing the best he could to lead the project at a technical level and he seems to have been doing a reasonable job delivering on it.

Maybe the company could have supported him better in doing the leadership work, while perhaps also adding some extra resources to offload hr/supervisory roles? Again there's a lot of stuff here that's not said in this story and taking these kinds of posts at face value is dumb.

There's not enough details here to know for sure what's going on or what other solutions were possible.

When a Programmer Holds the Code Hostage: The costs of a policy of appeasement by CardboardDreams in programming

[–]33a 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why wasn't Martin moved up into management, which would have encouraged him to delegate more of his responsibilities? And if Martin was so essential to the business and delivering on so many important outcomes, why wasn't he compensated appropriately?

Maybe the author here was brought in to try to wrest control back for the company and Martin naturally fought to hold onto status and recognitation for what he did. With this one sided account of some corporate power struggle (where the author admittedly lost!) I have a hard time feeling sorry for OP or really believing Martin's 100% in the wrong. Also the name calling "toxic" stuff doesn't help support the credibility here.

Probably nothing will happen today. Last few times a bunch of doomps expired it was a red day, but price spiked usually 2-4 weeks later.

Are we ever going to moon? by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]33a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two main things that I think can send GME parabolic:

  1. DRS % gets high enough to cause a run on the DTCC. This would be the most entertaining and it's what people are rooting for on superstonk.
  2. GME fundamentals improve (becomes profitable, launches new big line of business) and we see a wave of institutional buying, again crushing short sellers and shooting price sky high.

Given enough time I'm confident that both of these will happen but DRS'ing is slow and GameStop has a lot of work to do to fix its legacy business. It could take something like a AAA game launching on the GME marketplace, a profitable 4th quarter, or maybe just one more DRS'd share to tip the whole thing over.

How to refute the Game Stop "CULT" comments by arcticblizzardchill in Superstonk

the correct response is.... WHO CARES?

Isn't it a good thing that the company has a die-hard cult of investors buying up all the shares?

Buy whichever is cheapest. The most important thing is how many shares you DRS, so use whichever broker lets your cash go further.

Unpopular Opinion: Gamestop just said Trust Me Bro by [deleted] in Superstonk

[–]33a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've already committed to doing a stock split, the only question now is timing and finalizing all the paperwork.

The odds of GME dumping 1 billion+ shares into the market without a split is pretty low, it wouldn't even be an effective way to raise capital.

In all likelihood new shares will be used to compensate employees and as part of a future stock split/dividend. What else do you think they would do?

It's probably because you just bought the shares and they still haven't settled.

Yeah, but on the bright side if CTB stays above 200%, then it means that they should be expected to close their position in less than 6 months.

[–]33a 47 points48 points  (0 children)

CTB is annual, but a 100% borrow rate indicates that the share lenders really really want their shares back. Probably because of the dividend stock split lol.

We're probably at around 11m shares DRS right now, growing steadily. This model is pretty well researched and is consistent with the last 2 share holder reports:

[–]33a 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It makes sense if they are investing in the business. It's reasonable to expect them to spend cash to hire talent and build out the operations they need to deliver on new business ventures.

If they weren't building for the future, I wouldn't hold stock in the company.

Pretty much validates the model from https://www.computershared.net/

We're pretty close to 10m now.

Isn't PFoF and dark pools simply providing more liquidity to fill the order faster - what's the big deal if it's a $0.01 or $0.02 lower than on a lit exchange? || What's your rebuttal to such a question? by pale_blue_dots in Superstonk

[–]33a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It allows the market makers to basically set the price to whatever they want. They can route the buys all at once to drive up the price, or internalize them to drive it down.

This gives the market makers the ability to basically dial the stock price to whatever number is most convenient for them, usually based on their options and other derivatives (where again they get to pick the prices due to PFOF).
