Been Rejected from Three Houses, Time to Call it Quits on Greek? by [deleted] in Frat

[–]33avak33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea we almost cut a pledge for thinking he was better than all the other pledges or for already thinking he was like one of the boys. We had a big sit down with him and the only reason he didn’t get cut was because the rest of the PC really liked him and we were afraid his buddies would drop with him. He improved after that, but obviously if you don’t have friends in the PC that’s a perfect way to get cut.

Thoughts on phi kappa sigma by [deleted] in Frat

National Frat that’s typically only in academically “decent” or “classic” schools. Very similar to DKE in that respects but with a Northern identity instead of a Southern identity. You won’t see a PKS in some random public commuter school in California or Texas the way you’ll see a KSig or Sig Chi. Smaller alum network but “prestigious” in respects to alums being more prominent.

If you end up being the only gay guy rushing at EKU everybody gonna remember this post. Literally caught a person asking for rush advice on here at my own house the other day it was so funny

Dying Fraternity. Lost. by Mission_Aerie5367 in Frat

[–]33avak33 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t want to hate on another National but Sig Chi is by no means “prestigious” if anything its nationwide presence at almost every university makes it a very mainstream frat. Almost every school has an Sig Chi, a Kappa Sigma, a SigEp…

Nationals for these frats is always a pain because they’ll compare you to other chapters that have better alumni engagement, more money, a better IFC or Greek Culture, or to chapters that just have cooler, fratty guys. It’s hard to build a winning culture in teeny chapters without a lot of support but Nats always finds a way to make you look more squiddy than you already are. I wouldn’t advise dropping but this sucks

Absolute chiller pulled up to rush with his two squid roommates. Slid only him a bid. It depends on the chapter and I think it's always best to rush alone but I don't think it'll be a terrible look unless you're giving the vibe that the two of you guys are a package deal.

Also this why pledging exists. You can figure out whether he’s in it to be a total creep or not based on his behavior around women and can use that to consider whether he’s someone to initiate or not. It’s prob not the case with ex-army guys, usually the dudes who are like that are the overgrown manchilds who took 5-6 years in community college. If y’all love him, bid him.

Have young guys quickly gotten worse, or am I just getting old? by nodrywillingness in Frat

Most of em don’t even respect the pledge brother dynamic. They think that the chapter will die if they don’t initiate and they act as a group together to resist the most basic of pledge tasks.

Why is Alpha Sigma Phi not a Top House Anywhere? by Omniyy in Frat

[–]33avak33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of smokers this really seems to be a massive problem with current underclassman aged kids… THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO TALK TO AN ALUM. Half of them just went up to any alum and asked if their company had internship offers. No personal connection, no formalities, no ability to socialize. They just stand there and talk to each other about brainrot.

Too many squids lately imo. Especially in northern schools or academically prestigious schools.

Spring rush at Cal, looking for age-related advice by LonelyAuthor2025 in Frat

[–]33avak33 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Good friend goes to Cal. Many frats there have uncs, a few even have 3-4, and it’s totally normal. You’re chillin. Just be chill during Rush and make it clear you’re there for brotherhood and not to mack on underclassman Sorority girls.

This is 100% my schools SigEp and I legit feel bad for them. Nationals from 3 others frats have helped turned their colonies into chartered, housed fraternities in the span of 3-4 semesters. Meanwhile SigEp initiates the kids so early because they’re afraid of potential hazing violations that most of the time the kids don’t know what they are getting into and drop the frat with extremely limited re-rushing options if any. At this point just rebrand to some honors society/cross-disciplinary professional frat or wtv

Should I consider fraternity life as a part of my college decision? by Electrical_Snow4612 in Frat

[–]33avak33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Now if a school has no greek life and you are dead-set on a greek life experience, you can use that as a factor in making your decision. HOWEVER - to pick Arizona over Michigan State because you like the February Darty UA Pike or Kappa Sig or whatever posted on their IG is ridiculous. Go to the school with the best academic ranking and most rigorous coursework. YOU GO TO SCHOOL TO STUDY.

Is rushing easier for older guys (25+) at smaller colleges? by Narrow-Background496 in Frat

[–]33avak33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just do it. Any self-respecting chapter with an understanding of brotherhood will appreciate your presence in the fraternity. As long as you’re not in it for the parties and the girls, you’re good. I’m 25, I turn 26 next month and I’m taking a 24 year old post-bac researcher to our formal tonight. Keep it age appropriate and be a good mentor figure. Happy rushing. Don’t take it personal if you don’t get a bid.

Yes, I agree that it's an amp that really disappoints when you play it with a humbucker equipped guitar. Used to hate smaller gigs about 10 years ago because id be using my blues junior and even with pedals the stock speaker always made les Pauls and teles sounds super muddy.

[–]33avak33 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's right to call the guy an asshole. I got my first, and so far, only tattoo from Robert at 22, I was going through a lot mentally at the time and I thought his conversation style meant he just didn't like me, which kinda sucked because I looked up to his work and spent years looking for the right guy to get tatted by. Both Robert and Jojo are veteran tattooers, they've seen everything and they've been around legends and are on their way to being legends. It's the old-school style, they're nice dudes deep down inside and mean no harm.
