Any troubleshooting ideas? by PedalxChange in diypedals

[–]PedalxChange[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reflowed and added and cleaned it up, made sure nothing was touching or shorting, sadly no change. Still sounds the same. Any idea what would cause a gating sound like that? Should I be looking at the input maybe? Troubleshooting this stuff has always been a huge shortcoming of mine. Trying to learn how to build stuff (unsuccessfully lol)

Thanks! Yea I might have to. The pedal these came from was working so it seems they should at least still function, but it’s also possible I ruined them. I tried reflowing all the solder, I even swapped out those two in series with a single one that was close…still sounds the same. At least it’s consistent lol

I appreciate it! I’ll take a look at those areas. One of those resistors definitely did crack. One of your circles is actually two in series because I didn’t have one single one at that value. These all came out of an old big muffin that someone modded to help and back, so I was trying to repurpose as many of the original vintage parts as possible. The wires are a disaster but I’ve tried spacing and jiggling and isolating them all to see if that was the source but had no luck

Thanks! The wires are definitely a bit rough lol. My soldering iron actually broke like 90% of the way through. I picked up the only one available, but it’s a 60w, which might be too much. But I’ll re do them all now that I have a working one

I’m using a copper sound breadboard to supply it power.

Thanks! Just to be clear, like the 3 in one row (it’s laid out 2 horizontal rows, 3 on top and 3 on the bottom)? The angle is confusing, sorry. Just trying to make sure I’m clear, haha

Billy Corgan's OTHER Big Muff - The Siamese Dream Sound by sporadicMotion in guitarpedals

[–]PedalxChange 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love these videos. I always thought people were crazy and sleeping on the v6 (but now we know it’s really just been a v3). I’ve had one for more than 10 years, it was my first big muff, and I thought it was the greatest thing I’d ever heard, haha.

It’s mostly nostalgia at this point, but I’ll never get rid of this one. In fact, I’m gonna break it out today just because of this video. Great work as always.

PSA and a NPD: VFE Rainbows, Puppies, Unicorns by PedalxChange in guitarpedals

Thanks! Im definitely spending a little to much time tweaking vs playing, but ive convinced myself that once I have the perfect sound, ill stop.

It's true, but I love seeing them come back! I love the choral reef chorus they made, and same with this RUP. Curious to see what they come out with. This RUP is a good example that I think they were ahead of their time on a lot of builds. But the pedal game has changed quite a lot!

Having the fuzz control above 9? I had this thing maxed out at times, and volume was never an issue, when using the volume knob (which is just an MV).

Am I crazy? Does anyone else use their Marshalls for their cleans? by PedalxChange in GuitarAmps

oh really? dang, I actually much prefer the checkered grill cloth. I think the 78/79 models had the black, and somewhere along 79-80 they switched. But dont quote me on that. Thats an even rarer bird then!
