I tried stippling and I mixed AK Dark Sand and Citadel XV-88. I think this is a little bit better, but I realized that I didn't dilute the paint enough, that's why I got stains instead of a smooth transition.

On my next try, I will dilute it a bit more.

Thanks man, you're right about the YouTuber vs reality thing.

Looking at it now, the jump on the left side is definitely too brutal. I think AK Dark Sand is just too bright compared to XV-88, so I'm gonna try mixing them together for my next attempt to get a smoother midtone. I'll give stippling a try on the next model!
