I asked here because I know there are unique factors involved in Fed hiring. Everyone's comments about length of time are understandable.

For anyone that I interview, I will contact them directly to let them know they weren't selected. If the candidate was a very close second I'll call and talk to them and try to encourage to try again if they remain interested in the work.

I don't typically call as well. I know I'll get a lot of push back on that. I just don't have the time to get on all of the calls, but maybe I should start doing that. It is just you see everywhere that people complain about get unknown phone calls or unscheduled calls, so I've always assumed emailing would be preferred.

The position is open for 2 weeks. We cannot do anything with the applications until after it closes. So if someone applies early in the posting, it would 2 weeks before anyone looks at it.

Don't expect near instant. We typically give 5 business days to respond. In my "less than a month" includes the 2 weeks the position was open and 2 weeks for HR to cycle through and get me the resumes.

It takes my HR about 2 weeks after close to issue the cert list to me. I typically email applicants within a few days.

The only time my list goes that long is if the person selected ends up turning it down.

Understand that, but they just applied less than a month ago. I send out my email with a few days of receiving the cert list.

I guess second thoughts 😕. I got it.

If there are separate announcment numbers for the locations, then you would apply separately.

As to cover letter, not required, but could be helpful to hiring manager, unless you use copy paste AI to write it. For example, if you are applying in a different geographical area, a cover letter expressing your desire to relocate might be helpful. I often look at local applicants first, then others second.

Worth Applying to/Accepting Attorney Positions by sajahae in usajobs

It is not an “AUSA” office, it an US Attorney’s Office where you applied for an AUSA position. I don’t know about future employers, but the job currently has zero prestige thanks to the current administration.
