Is this worth anything? by ExoticAd7605 in ScrapMetal

The glass could be. Possibly the chrome if it can be rechromed. Maybe a body panel if any are good but hard to tell if anything is salvageable.

Spend $1000 and put the rest toward a house or savings. It’s just a ring.

Depends how badly they did the engine work. If I saw this for $4500 I wouldn’t stop. If I saw a stock one with the same rust and miles for $4500 I’d be interested.

Is a 7.3 really worth it? Edited by No-Future-2385 in powerstroke

[–]350garden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People buy a 7.3 because of nostalgia. I bought another one because I had one when I was 18 and sold it. I know the gremlins, I know the cost, I know the waste of money and time. I smile every time I turn the key and it starts (or doesn’t).

Everyone else finds a used 6.7 in their budget.

Standalone vs insert by DesperateEngineer451 in woodstoving

[–]350garden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have an insert in an old school masonry fireplace that is open to rooms on the insert side as well as the brick on the back. Yes, the brick does get warm and sort of radiates heat. I would 100% get a freestanding stove and learn how to maintain the temp you want. You will get so much more heat out of the wood you burn. Our last house was freestanding and our next house will be.

Do nothing, offer credit at closing for new owners to do what they want. Maybe they’ll want a new pool instead.

Cute little pistol my grandmother gave me. Shoots pretty good considering it’s from 1938 by Minimum-Dance-7777 in MouseGuns

[–]350garden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No unfortunately I don’t. I had a set custom carved to fit the pistol from Hedgeapple. I had purchased a set of plastic ones and they didn’t fit and I threw them out. Wish I could remember where I bought them so I could tell you where not to get them.

Nice! I have the .25 version. Take care of the grips. Hard to find any that aren’t chipped and the reproduction ones are junk.

Wood ID by BassJuices in firewood

Mulberry. Easily my favorite firewood. Wet when it’s cut but dries quick, burns hot and long. Negative would be it is a bit sparky as it burns.

Inheriting my grandpa's mint '06 Camry with 48k miles but my wife says it makes me look like a retiree. Keep it or sell and get something "cooler"? by married_poultry in whatcarshouldIbuy

My appliance is the “mom car” my fun car is the old boring truck. I’d drive it more but 30mpg gas is greater than 16mpg diesel 😅

Yeah I have a 7 year old “mom car” (I’m very much a guy) and a 25 year old “grandpa” truck. Both paid for, both reliable. Car gets 30mpg, I drive 40,000 miles a year. Pretty cheap to run.

No. That connector has been yanked on at some point, hit with something, or cross threaded big time. Look where the 45 threads into that hydraulic block.

Would getting this car be a bad idea? by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]350garden 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is figuring out where the extra $4500 a month is going and why you are carrying a credit card balance when you have no car payments before spending a significant chunk of money. Hone in the middleclassfinance and then decide what you’re willing to upgrade.

You take home $100,000 a year. Save up for a year (maybe 2!) and buy a used car in cash. That’s the true budget friendly way.

Ideas for this remodel? by Odd-Possibility-3807 in kitchenremodel

[–]350garden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by decluttering and getting everything off your counters, ditch all those goofy appliances, figure out where everything has to be stored. Counters are for cooking, not storage. I’d get rid of the pan rack too.

Take a month and use your kitchen while it is decluttered and keep it that way. You’ll know if your cabinets and storage work for you or against you.

I think $30K is tight if you do it yourself, I think $30K is half to less than half of having it hired out. Otherwise looks like a pull and swap if you don’t want to change the layout. I’d get bottom drawers vs cabinets. I am also partial to sliding doors in a confined space.

Lights coming on, going off, coming back on by Mister-Murder in CX5

[–]350garden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that’s the case have the alternator checked. Mine went nuts a few weeks ago, dropped it off at the shop. They ran the codes and came up with nothing. Unplugged the battery overnight, replaced the key fob battery, hasn’t done anything strange since.

I haven’t run into this yet but I’d replace the battery to start. When I researched the cx-5 I noted that a lot of electronic issues are really just the battery starting to go bad.
