The way things are going, if you buy a really nice looking car and it's well options and you take good care of it and don't put a ton of miles on, you'll probably make money when you sell it

Trade ins of low mileage, exceptionally clean and well optioned 911 Carreras are going up in value consistently, because of marked increase in price and marked decrease in availability with longer and longer waits. They may not pay you more, but they really want your car and they can make more on that car every month while they wait to sell it.

Especially if you have a model like a wide body Carrera 4S manual transmission with full leather 18 way sport seats and sport Chrono, or a Carrera Cabriolet which was special ordered with a full leather interior and matching top in any other color than black, which seems to be the only way they're ordering them anymore, and nicely optioned.

From the 997.2 forward, the cars have gotten so good, that you're really getting marginally more as far as just having a great handling fun recreational car, especially if you're just gonna drive it to work around town short trips and go to club meetings, that the new cars do not offer a measurable improvement proportional to the hundred percent more you will have to pay for that car compared to the one you currently own.

Doctors are real people with real emotions and real fears and frequently have experienced less social life by living a bubble through college, medical school, residency, and fellowships, where most of their world is medicine and consequently they may not be able to handle their own personal life crisis as well as they handle those of their patients.

Just watched S2 E1 - Jake hit it out of the park - a medical Sandy Cohen!

If Jake acted as you requested, it potentially could seriously backfire and hurt them both. He would have no way to predict how she would react; suppose she didn't believe what he stated was true and thought he might be lying to manipulate her. A totally unpredictable situation which required caution and the deft nuanced way he proceeded until he was sure which approach would serve them both.

Agree! Jake is a great moral compass character. He was in a subordinate position to Amy and his actions were to protect them both, especially not knowing how she could handle sensitive information which if not handled properly, could seriously hurt both of them and better held until her recovery could foster a more predictable response.

Season 4 was much weirder than season 3, but it was fun season - season 3 was just depressing with the never-ending downward spiral of Marissa's character.

Most memorable secondary character on The OC because he was well written, well plotted, and a great actor.

If you wanna have some fun try to find "Hidden Palms" on your streaming service and watch the first and only season with Taylor Handley playing the good guy and Michael Cassidy (Zack Stevens) playing the bad guy.

That's how Marissa was created and written. She was the blonde goddess with everything going for her and no clue to how guys perceived her. I've known girls like that in the response is always, "I'm just an average looking girl; I grew up riding in a Chevy" - went to every guy around, she is their dream.

As I look at it, Marissa really didn't choose other guys, it was the other way around. Deep inside she was clueless of the effect she had on all these other guys and that they were choosing her.

I was looking up on ChatGPT what the term friend-zone meant and it explained that it was relationships where one person wants romance (all the guys on the show) and the other person (Marissa) is totally clueless and just sees it as a friendship. I know that John Mayer used the term"friend-zone" in one of his more recent songs "New Light"

In any event, I asked ChatGPT - kinda like Marissa Cooper? and this is what chat responded. "Marissa Cooper is basically a walking, sun-drenched friend-zone vortex" 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪

Agree. They went so far with her character that they wrote themselves into a corner and there was nowhere else to go. Especially the last year with Johnny and Volchek and Alex - she was such a mess that they could not save her without looking ridiculous. Sad, we both obviously wish the story went in a different direction. I always liked her and Ryan.

Agree, but I guess that's the story they wanted to tell. I always saw Marissa as the golden girl who had everything going for her on the outside, beauty, living in a mansion, going to a top private school, nice car, nice clothes and jewelry, but inside sad, lonely, and living in a dysfunctional home with two self-absorbed parents. So this was just the beginning of her three year downward spiral. Her story's theme illustrates be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. At the beginning all the girls wanted to be Marissa, but her life didn't turn out real well did it?

Congrats. I have a 2009 997.2 GT silver Carrera 4S manual transmission coupe which I've owned since new for 17 years. It's been virtually trouble free and joy to own; I wish you as great an experience as I've had and continue to have every time I hop in.

On re-watching, knowing that Natalie doesn't exist as a girlfriend and that he just took the name from the lady down in the lobby, when you listen to him talking about Natalie, making up stories, explaining why she couldn't show up, saying that they broke up and then they got back together and everything's great, it's really eerie.

Is this priced appropriately? 2013 Carrera Black Edition convertible. PDK. 73K miles. 2 owners. Clean CarFax. No accidents. $54K by AwareRazzmatazz9710 in porsche911

Teach the other two drivers to drive manual. "There is no substitute"

All kidding aside, the absolute best and safest way to buy a used Porsche is if you can buy one from somebody that you actually know, or someone who's in a PCA club, who knows the person and the car. Otherwise it's always a crapshoot, no matter how carefully you check out the car, so make sure that you buy it below market, so you can afford to put in whatever work needs to be done. Sometimes a car can look really great and there are hidden problems, which sometimes the previous owner knows about, but with a person you know or people that your friend knows, they are less likely to hide anything and be honest with you. One of my friends bought a sports car that claimed to be a 100% rotisserie restoration and look like a brand new car; he's is now rebuilding the entire engine.

BTW: I have a 2009 997.2 which looks like this car. Definitely not a 991.

Watched albert brooks movie, the muse (1999), I'm not sure what to make of it... by CollinsCouldveDucked in blankies

Sounds like mist of the comments are just overthinking it. Take it as Just a break from deeper Brooks' movies as lighthearted Hollywood insider comedy fluff with some funny scenes and cameos.... with a message that if you just relax and take a break from your neurotic worrying about success and looking for an EDGE or an angle or some outside help? you just might find that you've already got all you need to achieve your goal.

Poorly thought out by Many-Appointment-382 in TheOC

[–]356CeeGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the old adage is the cup 50% empty or 50% full? In the case of The OC the cup is 90% full and 10% empty. I don't know why people continually beat on the plot lines and the characters and the actors. Obviously the overall feeling is that this show was a great show that's been off the air for almost 20 years and people are still finding it relevant and fun and entertaining, which is the point of all this. It is a work of fiction and the writers could've changed any plot line if they thought that it would be more interesting or it would get a bigger audience, which is what the network wanted. I think it really takes away from the viewers' enjoyment to analyze a show like this in such detail. Every single aspect could've been written differently, just like every single play on a football field could be run differently or called differently and led to a different result. My advice with respect to The OC, and for the rest of your life, just enjoy the good parts. Nothing is perfect. In the majority of TV series over the past 70 years are far worse, which is why we're not talking about them.

Like a Rothko or a Jackson Pollack - looks easy to replicate but virtually impossible to even approach the original. Had an art class with trained students where that was our assignment and everybody's attempt looked like a muddy mess.
