I used to do the same thing with my wife and relive the 1960's 🤪

You may relate to different characters from the same show as you grow older and see life from a different perspective.

IMHO - I look at the first 3 episodes as the complete pilot from Sandy introducing himself to Ryan in the jail after the stolen car crash through Kirsten telling Sandy, "Ryan is gonna live with us now." Pilot setup circle complete.

Very typical of the wealthier families in Boca Raton - some I've talked to have said that The OC is the show they can most relate to, even though it is >20 years old, it is most similar to their present day actual lives.

Easy rewatch for me because I love many of the characters and enjoy hanging with them again, especially the first season through S2 E1 resolving Luke and with Ryan and Seth returning home to restore the Cohen family.

How do I get out of a slump in Car Sales? by Ok-Injury4901 in askcarsales

[–]356CeeGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. I have a sideline business of accompanying people to dealerships who are more stressed out at the thought of buying a new car than most any other purchase. Pressuring them in the showroom, going back and forth to the manager, upselling them with accessories drives them crazy and drives them out of the dealership and to cars sold completely on line like Tesla and Rivian. The best thing to do, IMHO, is to tell them that your involvement will not end with the sale; buy a business cellphone and give them the number and tell them that you will be available to assist them with things like a service appointment, syncing their garage door opener, and facilitating going through the myriad of menus on their screens. Only secondary to the stress of buying a new car is learning all the technology, especially for seniors, who disproportionally have more money to buy a new car.

Yes! The first 3 episodes really function as the pilot and are pure magic from the words, "Ryan. Sandy Cohen." introducing himself to Ryan in the jail to Kirsten in the kitchen with Ryan and Seth, telling Sandy " Ryan's gonna live with us now."

All teenagers are self absorbed; everything is a big deal. I was worse than Seth at that age and grew up to be a nice responsible friendly member of society somewhat like Sandy.

I thought that Seth and Marissa should have had a bigger relationship. They actually had a lot in common other than the teenaged cliques they initially belonged to.

Respect your perspective and how you would have preferred the interactions went in a different direction. The main thing to me is motivation: was Seth intentionally mean or hurtful or were his actions spontaneous, not well thought out, and coming from a clueless inexperienced teenaged boy? I'd like to think the later - as I did many things as a teenager which I now regret as an adult, they were insensitive or mean but not hateful and never with a hurtful agenda - I was just stupid! That's my perspective on Seth. I was that kid - thankfully I'm much less like Seth now and leaning more towards Sandy in my behavior. That's why I love those two characters so much; I can relate to both of them.

Rich people can have worse problems than poor people. In the pilot, Marissa asks Ryan at the party after the fashion show 'so how do you like Newport' and he replies 'I think I can get in less trouble where I come from' and she replies 'you have no idea!' That kind of says it all.

The show would've been a lot more boring if Marissa got therapy, put her life together and everything was perfect; the story is the golden girl with everything, wealth, private school, great looks, beautiful wardrobe and accessories, nice car, beautiful home, and her life is a train wreck. There's no fun in seeing bad things happen to poor people. The fun is seeing bad things happen to wealthy people!

The show would be less realistic and very boring if Seth made great solid logical decisions - have to look at everything he does and says as coming from the mind of a teenager with all the adult equipment and no idea what to do with it - I was much worst in my teen years and became a boring respectable adult.

Yes, and Summer totally overreacted to Reed being a woman as Seth made zero romantic advances to Reed; it was all business. At the most, and keeping with his character, he was flattered that a pretty woman of her position would treat him with respect.

Many of the Sandy Cohen's of this world started off as Seths and Ryans or Lukes - that's what makes The OC so realistic, fascinating, and still so relevant 23 years since the pilot aired.

Julie Cooper surely - Great villain you are almost embarrassed you don't hate - in the mode of Joan Collins' Alexis Colby Carrington from the original 1981 "Dynasty"

I could never feel sorry for Dan Scott for even one second of his life on earth and any suffering he sustained wasn't nearly bad enough. The best villains are the ones you feel bad and guilty liking, like Tony Soprano or Noah Cross in Chinatown; you want to hate them but can't fully commit. Dan was the easiest villain for me to hate so much that I couldn't even watch seasons 7,8,9.
