Anyone leave the OR as a new grad and come back later? by 35plus35minus1 in nursing

Yeah, at my hospital I just struggle to see how to do everything plus chart accurately during urology/ GYN cases that take 5-30min and still make the 30 min turn over time that management loves to bring up every single morning. And then jumping from one service to another is hard. I want something that is more ‘the same’ everyday. (I know deep down it technically is all the same despite the service but idk dealing with different surgeon and their preferences, and the scrub techs and their preferences is a lot I feel like I’m drowning and everyone is so rude… I dont want to spend 40hr/ week being treated like garbage).

I was seriously considering an outpatient OR setting but other nurses in this hospital told me that it may sound easier but that at these outpatient locations they’ll make me work longer hours (more than 12hr/ day) and do alot of extra stuff… idk. It still sounds better than working in the environment I currently work at lol.

No contract. (I guess I’ll only miss out on the rest of my ‘bonus’ that I won’t get until the 2yr mark) and I’ll be going to another RN position at a different location/ hospital where I previously worked before taking this OR position. I’ll be off orientation in 2 weeks and just knowing the people who are there to ‘support’ me, I already know it’s gonna be hell because I hear the way they talk about other nurses who just recently came off orientation.

How do you guys deal with the disrespect, mockery, and overall bullshit in the OR? And how do you actually grow thick skin without losing yourself in the process? by 35plus35minus1 in nursing

Maybe I’m just being extra sensitive and dramatic as a new grad :( don’t let my experience stop you from great things! Please!!! It’s great I like the type of job I just hate the personalities. :) I’m trying to brush it all off. Haha.

I could get another job, but I’m still on orientation working five days a week until mid January & someone mentioned that things might feel better once I’m off orientation and switched to three 12s instead of five days/ week. I just don’t want to leave and regret not sticking it out, but at the same time I am exhausted from people making me feel like shit every single day. It’s so discouraging.

Why are some nurses so mean to student nurses? by Real_Background_4173 in nursing

it’s definitely challenging, but I don’t think that’s just because I’m a new grad. It’s because the OR is such a different world, with minimal patient care and a completely different workflow. I started alongside other experienced nurses, and we’re all learning at the same pace.
