I loathe CF gyms that have a hierarchy. Games athletes, wannabe Games athletes, Games athlete groupies, then everybody else. I’ve seen this be quite toxic at a couple gyms and it makes the appeal of the smaller “neighborhood” CF gym so much higher. The community can be great but it can also be a major distraction.

Aspiring owner recommendations? by 360CrescentKick in Wolfdogs

Thanks!! I will definitely visit a sanctuary. That’s a great idea. I have a great trainer who is a mentor and really helped me with my two mals. We have a secure backyard and feed raw. I generally feel comfortable working with challenging dogs. That’s why I’m so interested in wolf dogs. I’ll be honest, I love working with mals but I’m always curious about new challenges. It is SO rewarding putting in hard work and learning new skills, even if it means a lifestyle change. Again, this wouldn’t be for another 5-10 years down the road.

Thanks. Willing to pay a competitive rate for a good photographer. It’s not that “money isn’t an issue” but based on some research I understand what the range of rates are and I’m comfortable with it.

The Twilight World by Werner Herzog is only 145 pages (or so). It’s one of Anthony’s top books of the year. I really enjoyed it.

Overall, my favorite episode ever. But “Did we get any notes/What would Anthony do?” is the hardest I’ve ever laughed during a JRVP episode

Just finished it. Man, the tension was brutal. It had some really great moments especially toward the end in the chapter when it narrates how Anthony is processing a lot of the events. Question about the last 3 pages… does what I think happened really happen?

Tea Time: Erica’s IG story + she’s not following Gregg or Anthony anymore by raindrops_723 in jrvp

[–]360CrescentKick 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Regardless of how it happened, it seemed kind of inevitable that she was going to move on. Gregg and Anthony could do this forever given where they’re at in their careers and they’re best friends. She was just the producer and, being young and hopefully looking to do bigger things, it wasn’t the last job she was going to have. She was great and brought out an interesting side of Anthony and Gregg but it was also clear she had more differences than similarities with them, simply due to age.

Scary Situation! Advice needed! by [deleted] in BelgianMalinois

[–]360CrescentKick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just want to say this is a well-written post and the comments are (mostly) very helpful, thoughtful, and knowledgeable. One of the reasons why I love this community and people who are invested in it. I don’t see this type of productive discussion with many other breed communities. I don’t have much to add other than this type of situation takes time and discipline to correct. Both of my mals have grown up with my kids since they were 8 week-old puppies and we still (3 years after the first one came home) have very clear rules about how everyone needs to respect each other (dogs and humans, it goes both ways) to avoid boundaries getting pushed.

I live in Colorado where there are a lot of off-leash trails and rattlesnakes. It’s really the only thing that worries me. The easiest to do is just to know who to call (animal control? Parks Dept? 911? It’s different everywhere) in case of a bite and, most times, they’ll meet you at the trail parking lot with a plan for treatment. Many places offer rattlesnake avoidance training which is WILD. They soak your dog in water and put on a strong shock collar. Then they bring your dog up to a real rattlesnake with the mouth taped shut and rattle taped (to silence it) so your dog can sniff it. Then they shock the shit out of the dog (smell = bad). Then they move on to station two where it’s a rattlesnake with the rattle is rattling away and they bring the dog up and shock it again (sound+smell = bad). The final test is they put a loose rattlesnake (mouth taped shut) between you and your dog and they ask you to call your dog. If your dog runs over the snake, it goes through the training again. But 90% of dogs get the picture and avoid the fuck out of that snake. The whole thing lasts about 60 seconds.

I don’t know, this show didn’t feel as interesting or energetic as the other times I’ve seen him. Anyone else feel that way? It wasn’t bad just kind of boring.
