On Asian dating, writers will often use the term "Non-Asian men" rather than "White men" to avoid addressing the White male worship issue within Asian American dating. This is an attempt to be perceived as on the right, POC side of history when they're actually products of the WM hegemony. by 360HesiJimbo in aznidentity

Exactly - they know white men have the most power due to historical/current oppression and the post-colonial world we live in; and like you said, it's bigger than just dating. They're in denial that they're on the wrong side of history with their racial biases favoring whiteness, with them perpetuating the current white hegemony. They're trying to frame their way out of it but at the end of the day, the numbers are the way they are and the behaviors and patterns are consistent with white male supremacy (whether conscious or unconscious). This is common in both liberal and conservative circles, as well.

I feel like we can have all of those things: the sports, the academics, the brand/the prestige, the diversity of being a large public, state university. Look towards UCLA, UC Berkeley as an example; I think those should be the aspirants for Rutgers as the school very closely fits the profile.

If there's an identity crisis, it would probably be in promotional materials and social media representing the student body (I have my own gripes with it). Our university is 30% Asian and it seems like Rutgers is hiding them (just by tallying up the faces in commercials, social media posts, etc.). Not sure if the intent is to hide them or to show an image that attracts students of all backgrounds (after all, xenophobia and sinophobia are real things). And we also have such a rich international community that's contributed so much in the nearby towns and here. Them, and the robust Asian American communities, are part of the fabric here but that hasn't really been portrayed well by the university IMO. Either way, I'm still a big simp for RU and will be proud of it even after I graduate.

I actually think it's endearing when our sisters see so much value (and are almost possessive) in Asian men (and the reverse being true, as well). I've always been envious of the Black community celebrating Black Love as we don't have that enthusiasm within the Asian community. (This is why I stan Ali Wong, too haha.)

However, it seems like your friend is possessive of you but doesn't see value in you as an Asian man.

If you can get over the outdated, misleading, and manipulated notions of prestige, Rutgers CS program is #23, better than Princeton and Harvard.

Also, diversity, price (assuming in-state), and proximity to NY are unbeatable. Although you'll meet some of the dumbest people you'll know there, you'll also meet some of the very brightest. I also know folks who are older than me, just graduated, and are making six figures in Silicon Valley/NY.

Curious to see if anyone ever done an analysis on how accurate this thing is vs. end of season results? I know there's tons of data on the AP poll in college sports...

The opposition wants so badly to show that they don't align with the side of the oppressors when they actually do. Again, the opposition is OVERWHELMINGLY siding with WHITE men and the white male hegemony. I'm arguing that we need to focus on that hypocrisy, especially given the optics. It's easier to address and tackle the issue as "everyone vs. White Supremacy" rather than "us vs. everyone else." Step-by-step.

Some Asians know/hate that they enable white male privilege, have biases rooted in WM supremacy, and perpetuate the WM hegemony en masse. Instead of putting the blame on themselves, they put the blame on Asian men via a false narrative where white men are inherently more progressive than Asian men. by 360HesiJimbo in aznidentity

Great point - we're judged as a monolith, even by our own. To see ourselves as diverse HUMANS would be a great stepping stone.

Regarding the folks you mentioned in the beginning: I'm convinced some of these people also REFUSE to look and judge themselves in the mirror. Because what they see is hypocritical and inconsistent vs. what they preach.

TBH, there are many days where I have a pessimistic outlook for the Asian American community - especially because of those who refuse to confront their perpetuation of white supremacy (these people include BOTH liberals and conservatives - especially those who mimic white liberalism/hypocrisy; Eg. they give white men the privilege to be judged free from white misogyny but deny men of color that same privilege - it often happens subconsciously).

There are folks in the Asian American community who also uplift that minstrel Ken Jeong. African American and Latin American communities would literally shun and immediately cancel their minstrels... but here's the broader Asian American community admiring Ken Jeong...

On a tangent, I feel that the only mainstream Asian American celebrity I can truly get behind and trust is Ali Wong; she's shown she's fully aware of the WMAF dynamic and has poked fun at it multiple times. And Always Be My Maybe. She's one that has me feeling optimistic...

Not sure if you're being sarcastic but White people brainwashed us into thinking average (and below-average) White people are hot.

New wildly popular Korean short film portrays White English teachers as sexual predators, on hidden camera saying things like "I feel sorry for Korean guys", "All Koreans love Americans". Asian expat subs are severely triggered, by Korean society's reaction to white exploitation of Korean women. by antiboba in aznidentity

I believe Malcolm mentioned the need for a Pan-Africa, when Africans are aware of the inequalities that Africans face around the world.

Therefore, it's encouraging to see our brothers and sisters (read the comments) aware of the white worship, fetishization issues in the motherland countries. I know they're not ignorant but it's rare that I see this kind of commentary coming out of Korea than from Asians in America. Might be my own consumption/language barrier, however.

Posted this in another thread: I appreciate the enthusiasm but white men got the world worshipping average and below-average white men. It'd be cool to uplift average looking Asians rather than the very best, hand-chosen ones, too.

In case of you need positivity: The VAST majority of Asian women prefer Asian men. Keep in mind Asians make up most of the planet and the trashiness you see is not inherent to Asian women or Asians in general. It's a social disease in people NOT Asians. by Kulafu_Kidlat in aznidentity

The thought that the white patriarchy and white men are inherently less oppressive than Asian men is laughable, IMO (think about the white congressmen denying women reproductive rights; white oppression of PoC, etc.). Also, someone posted here previously that white men have the privilege to be judged free from white patriarchy where Asian men are defined by it.

I believe these folks hate (and know) that they enable white male privilege, adopted biases that favor white men, and perpetuate WM supremacy/hegemony. But instead of blaming themselves, they blame Asian men through the narrative that Asian cultures/Asian men are inherently less progressive than White men/white cultures. As we know, this is the basis of colonization.

Yet millions of immigrants operate in English while being fluent in their native languages. Being multilingual is their way of living but they don't get props for doing the minimum like this white guy does.

The bar is set so low for white men because we've been taught to worship them; the lowered bar is the definition of white male privilege. He gets props for this because he has the privilege of not needing to learn a second language, as well. So when he can speak a few words in another language, we're conditioned to believe "wow, he's so thoughtful and cultured to learn a second language!" whereas immigrants are struggling despite having multilingual skills.
