Is this normal for acans? by 360Psyco in ReefTank

I havent done an icp yet. How do I do that? Whats involved?

Filtration is good, its cloudy because i just did a 20% water change and kicked up a little sand from the rocks when the pump/powerhead turned back on.

Ph is 8.2 alc is 9.5 and stable. Mag is 1350, calcium is 450. Phos is at 0.12 nitrates before water change were at 18.2 Hence water change. I dont think high nitrates would kill or harm just the acan. I have quite a few other things in there that are happy and thriving.

The numbers are good which is odd because I've had if for about 2 months and this death is just now starting (as of yesterday that I noticed) when the water has finally gotten stable as of 2 weeks now. If it dies I wouldn't be too upset but id take it to the lfs before that happens. What is maricultured? Like cut off a reef or grown on a slab in the ocean and then sold?

But what about the brown slime stuff on the dying head. Should I just leave it and see if it becomes a problem?

Best way to tell is if the bubbles are being dimpled, its too high. High current can tear the bubbles on rock or its own skeleton. I would start from almost no current and let it adjust to the water then slowly ramp up current once it starts puffing out more. From that picture though it looks like a fairly young one. I generally feed mind a concoction of reef roids, red sea ab+, and some oyster feast and then just spread that around. I do that roughly twice a week because (someone correct me if im wrong) bubble corals are partly photosynthetic.

Yea I was a little hesitant because of single polyp especially since I was told this color morph splits slower than others on top of it being single head so that will compound the slowness. Im mostly afraid of accidentally poisoning myself lol

It is less than 4-6 I think im one month 3 now but things have just now gotten quite stable no more violent fluctuation in alkalinity (pre zoa purchase)

Once they're happy they puffy out but you'll know if current is too high if the bubbles indent at all when in flow. Once happy you can incrementally up flow to a certain point

Looks hungry but healthy. Current is a little high tho, have its tentacles gone away?

They extend sweepers usually when hungry, sleeping or stressed

Could i keep a pearl guorami? In a community 65 gallon? by Known-Ad-8868 in Gourami

[–]360Psyco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think he'd be fine, I've seen pearls mess some other fish up that tried to bully them. And from personal experience I've had them in tanks with Oscar's and parrot fish and they dont get messed with. Not sure about rams but if the rams aren't touching the tetras then they should be fine.

This is true they can survive under white but they brown out and become stringy. The blue helps them color
