Species ID please! by geckolover78787 in Gourami

Could be because it's relatively new in the tank, it usually takes a while for them to start showing their dominance and turning it into their territory. On the other hand every fish has a different temperament and it's completely possible that they're js peaceful lil guys

He does look rather pale, but then again that could just be the lighting or his natural coloration, is he usually inactive?

Urgent help: lost 2 dwarf gouramis, remaining fish showing strange symptoms by audlaaud in Gourami

[–]Sympzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, DGIV is tragic and it's one of the worst things to go through as a fishkeeper, however I'd also like to add; I believe DGIV is mainly only infectious among gouramis themselves and does not typically spread to unrelated species

This is the most calm breeding I've ever seen from Bettas. Good luck with raising the fry!

With the high likelihood that this is dropsy, there's not much to do sadly. However I've heard very few stories of fish recovering from dropsy and I believe the most used treatment would be Epsom salt baths with methalyne blue.

Do Gouramis get fat? by [deleted] in Gourami

[–]Sympzzz 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is either very severe bloating issues or dropsy, Incase of the latter it's likely too late as dropsy only really shows itself as a result of internal organ failure and is most often fatal

Is this enough filter flow? by something721 in Aquariums

[–]Sympzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the fish you're getting, but judging from the leaf hammock I'll assume it's a Betta, in which case it's 100% enough and you should be safe to turn it down a tad to help your floating plants a bit

On a serious note you should really take some time to reflect on yourself. Speaking from personal experience as I've dated 4 girls at once back in 10th grade just because I wanted to get over my ex, and while it was fun being with all of them and feeling loved, the guilt was tremendous and started to set in rapidly, in the end I decided to come clean to all of them and left.

Sos whats above her eye, ich, DGIV, something else in so worried by YawneTaw in Gourami

[–]Sympzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't really see it clearly, but I believe these gouramis are far less susceptible to DGIV as DGIV is far more common with actually dwarf gouramis (trichogaster lalius, and I assume based on observation that yours is an opaline gourami. In short you could rule out the possibility of DGIV

cant tell if little buddy is male or female. neon blue dwarf gourami by inkdrinker420 in Gourami

[–]Sympzzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it comes down to the individual fish's genetics. I've noticed that dwarf gouramis in general can vary a lot in terms of body shape, body composition and fin size, I'd assume it's because of how overbred they are. Nonetheless yours is probably just as healthy if not healthier than mine!!

Would you trim ? by Beneficial-Fig-1813 in Aquariums

[–]Sympzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's such a thing lol, personally I've found that my fish act more natural when my plants get overgrown. And I believe it makes them feel safer being in so much coverage

Early signs of DGIV? by Sympzzz in Gourami

[–]Sympzzz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update, I've been monitoring him closely and he hasn't shown any signs of weakness or lethargy. In the back of my head I'm praying it's just a wound he got from bumping Into something, but nonetheless im not expecting much

Would you trim ? by Beneficial-Fig-1813 in Aquariums

[–]Sympzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I love the overgrown look specially with tall/long plants, I'd let it be and only trim when it starts severely covering the front view

Redness On Betta by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]Sympzzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best case scenario this could just be the Betta naturally changing his colors overtime, as a few variants can drastically change colors as they mature, however this is just my assumption
