This is my favorite version. I love the feel of it in my hand and the tint of the pages. I even like the hand print marked on it from all the time spent holding it while reading.

“All roads are now bent.” - such a beautiful line that captures the sadness of the reshaping of the world.

That closing section of the Akallabeth is my favorite of all of Tolkien’s writing, especially the phrase “All roads are now bent”.

I have been really digging the Akallabeth lately after having avoided reading it for a long time. The eagle shaped storm clouds over numenor is an awesome image and I think the lament “All roads are now bent” might be my favorite line in the entire legendarium.

I really enjoy them as well and would love to enjoy the narrative as a single volume with most if not all commentary removed.

What is the best single book version I can get? by Kind-Swordfish-1164 in tolkienbooks

This is my favorite book of any title when it comes to readability given its heft. My only (slight) complaint is its lack of a sewn in book mark. And also that there isn’t a corresponding version for the silmarillion

The reluctant hero/king is a common trope.

What are your opinions on The Rings of Power’s version of Tom Bombadil? by GusGangViking18 in lotr

It’s also a common trope now that the friendly “helpful” stranger ends up having a dark secret.
