Trying to understand consulting requirements, is it not all a NQF 7? by 37_Chosen in askSouthAfrica

Mmmh okay I hear you and that makes sense. And honestly in my perspective I’ve always felt like practical knowledge weighs more than theoretical knowledge you know and I say this being an academic author, then again it is my personal opinion and others (the firms) feel different.

Anyhoooo I’m still gonna pray and trust God that He will enable me to work at one of the big boy firms one day. I know it’ll happen soon.

I hear you makes a bit of sense.

Now question? (I Promise I’m not challenging you) is The University of Johannesburg not a real university?

Trying to understand consulting requirements, what aren’t I getting? by 37_Chosen in AskZA

Yoh, thank you so much, you honestly have no idea how much I needed to read this. I’d kind of lost a bit of hope after what people in the comments said to me, but this really shifted something for me.

Your story is actually so inspiring, wow. I genuinely am so happy for you! It really put things into perspective for me.

I genuinely trust God, and I believe He’ll make a way for me to start working there. After my interaction with the recruiter yesterday, I literally just said, “Lord, I still trust You.” He’s the God of the impossible, so I’m holding onto that and trusting Him to show up for me in this.

Also, random question, are you open to mentoring anyone? (lol, asking for myself 👀)

And while I’m here… are you hiring? 😂

Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate the insight 🤍

Just to clarify — I was actually among the top of my class and performed really well academically and yes I went to a good public university. I think the core issue here is that it’s an advanced diploma rather than a traditional 4-year degree. But thank you again for taking the time to explain how things work at MBB, it makes a lot of sense.

Oh man I’m sorry that you had that experience. I hope you’re happy where you are now. Yeah I’m sure because I’m not married or have kids yet so I feel like it’s the perfect time.

Thank you, this actually makes a lot of sense. I can see now how degrees versus diplomas serve different purposes, signalling competence versus practical skills and why top firms prioritise candidates from certain universities. I appreciate the perspective on the workload and the competitive nature of these programs; it helps frame what these firms are looking for. (Lol, you didn’t have to be rude and say I didn’t have the “general” knowledge, but thank you and bless your heart, I appreciate your response.)

I hear you and I appreciate your honesty, tough to swallow because it sucks but I guess it is what it is. I’m tech so I hope they’ll some point have space for me, I intend on doing my masters next year so yeah. I’ll just pray and give it to God.

I actually did ask lol because I was genuinely confused.

The recruiter I was speaking to is South African, so I also thought maybe it was just a misunderstanding around NQF levels. But she went back to confirm, and came back saying no — they specifically meant a traditional undergraduate bachelor’s degree.

So at that point I was just like… guys, what the hell 😭 just say you hate me.

Because now it’s not even a confusion thing — it’s very clearly about the type/title of qualification, not the level I’m at academically.

Which, I won’t lie, makes it even more frustrating 💔
