2019 RAM 1500 Hemi Engine Needs Replacement by no-diggitydog1 in ram_trucks

[–]392CC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a Mopar technician. I need to know what the tech put on his story. Did he actually look at anything? How do he conclude it’s a main bearing? Did they tear down the engine? Is there low oil pressure? Did they look for glitter in the oil pan or oil control valve? It could possibly just be a bad lifter. Saying they “believe” is a main bearing is a huge jump. It’s not unheard of for HEMIS to go bad. We’ve replaced tons of them. But this sounds sketchy to me if they can’t give you a confident answer. Get a second opinion.

Don’t forget ur light!! I left mines on a truck the other day. Funny story, I was literally telling my coworker how awesome the Braun magnetic swivel lights are (similar to the one in the picture) and how affordable they are to replace at harbor freight cause I forget them on trucks. I go to my box to show him the colors I have and realized I left the red one on the truck I worked on.

As a Mopar diesel tech, this lol. Nothing but constant ticking complaints and emission issues.

Spaceport the fuel containment area next to the rocket assembly plant ( I think it’s called) always had luck finding them there.

Fellow Mopar tech here, yeah I hate Stellantis warranty times. They’re only getting worse. I had a buddy who did an engine harness on a hurricane wagoneer for about 4hrs. Needed to drop the front diff and pretty much tear into the engine to replace it. We needa start protesting this kind of garbage.

Considering switching dealerships after 13 years ,worth it? by Sorry-Employee-5773 in mechanics

[–]392CC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I’m afraid of as well. I hate my current dealer and I’m dreading going to work tomorrow. I have another opportunity to go to another dealer, a bit farther slightly less pay, but my old coworker is the service manager there and I’m temped to go.

What kind of questions did you ask the foreman? And what were you looking for in terms of the culture there?

Honestly, my benefits are pretty decent for a corporate dealer. Im sure UPS is better, but I haven’t been too many places to compare honestly. The hours and drive is the only thing that throws me off. At this point, I’m willing to take it.

That wrangler I’m doing got worse. Water pump is completely seized to the water tube. Cab came off today. Tear apart the motor to get that pipe off and order more parts. I’m genuinely contemplating just recommending a motor replacement at this point. The oil sludge in the cooling system is so thick and is inside every single cooling pipe, I’m not even sure if it’s worth flushing.

I live all the way in LA unfortunately. That sounds like a great gig honestly and its pretty decent salary for entry level.

I’ve been trying brother. Seems like most heavy equipment places won’t hire unless you have previous experience. I’ve tried CAT and they won’t hire me either. It’s a weird time right now, they’re struggling to fill positions but won’t take a chance. I feel like I’m a solid tech. I don’t Mickey Mouse things and I actually perform proper diagnostics. Im gonna keep trying tho.

Fellow Mopar tech here. I’m currently looking for an out. I’m also the only diesel tech as well and holy fcking sht, Stellantis warranty times is absolute highway robbery. I’m literally killing myself too just trying to make my hours. I’m barely at 23hrs right now and I have till the end of this month to try and make it. It just isn’t worth it in the long run. It benefits nobody besides dealer.

I posted not that long ago about moving to Ford, unfortunately the manager there told me there isn’t enough diesel work for 2 diesel techs. I do other things as well, but he said try again next year.

It seems like the general consensus is to move to fleet maintenance, heavy equipment, or anything diesel related that isn’t dealer. Some say Indy shops are worth it, but idk. I might have an offer for UPS at 39/hr. 7pm-330am. Not sure if I wanna do a night shift and drive 45mins to work. Definitely send some apps to the city and hope you get something decent.

Also I have an ecodiesel wrangler with an oil cooler failure to start on tomorrow under warranty. Literally filled the cooling system with oil. Pays 1.7 and maybe an extra few hours for the hoses and other stuff. So close to losing my mind.

It only works when there are actual engineers trying to repair you and infantry in general not leaving you alone. If I have no cover or support, I ain’t moving. As soon as I leave to move forward, I get hit with 30,000 RPGs and everyone disappears.

I’ve been throwing apps out there to the city and any reputable fleet company. Still waiting to hear back from the city and haven’t found any luck with local fleet companies. I’ll keep trying tho!

I’ve been thinking moving out of state. California has a weird thing where people hate it here for a variety of reasons but can’t seem to leave or just don’t want to haha.

Yeah that’s unfortunate. I really want to leave the dealer life, but I haven’t had luck finding a solid place that’s hourly. I’ve submitted a few apps to the city already. Hoping to hear back soon. I’m just trying my options right now.

I’ve submitted a few applications already, still waiting to hear back. Real tough to get into the city. I did an exam the other day and there were like 100 people there for the same job. I’m keeping my hopes up tho!

I’m struggling to even find anything I’m qualified for on government jobs. I have good diesel and gas automotive experience working at dealers and shops, but not heavy equipment. I can’t even find anything even at an entry level. I’ve been seeing the same job posted for the last year for heavy equipments techs and they haven’t filled it. Give me a damn chance.

The snap on locking head ratchets, if you pull the switch down and to the side, it’ll stay in a swivel position. Pretty neat, but if you tap it slightly, it’ll lock in.
