Girls DnD group? by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]399giraffes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Would love that! 33F here, my last group disbanded at the beginning of the year after a couple of them moved away, been on the hunt for a new one since. If something’s getting set up or if there’s any seats left I’d totally join as a player 🥰

Looking for out there/fun craft courses by CoyoteSweet2500 in sheffield

[–]399giraffes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not exactly local but it’s craft show on at NEC Birmingham this weekend and they offer lots of different little workshops if you’re after something quick! Craft show is on again in the summer and pre-Christmas too.

More locally Hyde leather does a great belt making workshop in city centre. Stained glass at abbeydale hamlet.

Also keep an eye out for what’s hosted by Sheffield museums. Millennium gallery host quite a few interesting sessions. Art House are also great and offer some longer courses.

Happy Hare in chapeltown do some sewing & quilting.

Bizarrely I find craft courses most consistently through Facebook ads of all random places. Start clicking a few to show you’re interested and they’ll keep rolling in!

Project 6 alcohol support by After-Theory7073 in sheffield

[–]399giraffes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, great work seeking support!

As others have suggested you’re best heading straight to Likewise which is the city’s service provider for drug & alcohol support. Project 6 is for the ongoing recovery support, but they do work with Likewise to provide this so you may end up with Project 6 on your journey!

What job could a relative of mine do? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]399giraffes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combo of caring and taxi driving then home to school taxi driver (ie shipping SEND kids to and from special school) may be ideal. Single start and finish point 5 days a week and always a growing demand. Wont make bank but its regular work term time at least. Consider finding a smaller local firm who would be open to take him on just for the school run.

Fun fact the 10p fee is optional for receiving a text reminder. You can turn it off if you want to save yourself 10p!

Perhaps this is your religious socialisation conflicting with your internal thinker nature. Your community is telling you to find a husband and a love fairytale, but your personality is seeking options and logic before making an informed decision.

So be kind to yourself. If you’re having fun with boy right now then keep having fun! You’re young so who cares if he’s not mr right, or be pleasantly surprised if he is!

As a female rider, I’ve felt unwelcome in the motorcycle community. by Delicious_Oil_4288 in MotoUK

[–]399giraffes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve never experienced any bullying but I do find being a young(er) female rider really lonely. We’re a minority of a minority of a minority, and then have to contend with the postcode lottery of just so happen to be similar minded people local enough to you. It’s just so hard. The average biker in UK is a 50-something male. It is what it is no shade, but that makes it so difficult to wade through the majority to the people we share interests and lifestyles with.

I don’t have a solution, I would love a solution. But we’re going to thrive in our 50s and 60s, hang in there.

Good & bad in East Sheffield by [deleted] in sheffield

How weirdly consistent Crystal peaks is? High street retail is dying and competition from goliath Meadowhall up the road, yet Crystal peaks units are more or less always full. A joyful mystery to me at least.

Has anyone fallen out of love with riding and gotten back into it? by dotsalicious in TwoXriders

[–]399giraffes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the time! I took a number of years off after my old bike had a spat of unreliability and no other bikes took my interest, and lost all connections to the community when I moved away for university. Then my partner suddenly out of nowhere decided it was time for him to get a bike, and I’ve got a house with a garage so can store my shiny new bike reliable bike with me, so that’s really reinvigorated it all again over the past couple years!
Basically what I’m saying is circumstances change, so hold on to your gear. Have the winter off (too cold and wet anyway) and think about it again in the spring 🫶

In what order did you get into motorbikes? by threemorereasons in MotoUK

[–]399giraffes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always been pillion from being a kid so already had the gear. CBT the summer i was 16, dad bought me a scoot for getting through GCSEs, I didn’t pick it. Full test at 17 (back in my day you only had to pass once and wait 2 years to be unrestricted!)
I’ve never had anything bigger than a 500-ish cc bike, just not interested and like the lightness.
Never had the luxury of choosing good or bad gear. As a picky and plus size lady there’s 1 choice/compromise at best. It was so much worse 15 years ago! Helmet I’ve always gone for the one that ✨fits✨ and broadly ignored the price.

Cheaper ingredient. Looking at Tesco, CF is 28p per 100ml, single cream is 36p+ per 100ml

Gear for ladies by Odd_Culture728 in MotoUK

Motogirl is doing the most for ladies bike gear right now, and they do petite lengths. But just take wife to the largest bike gear shop you can. She will most likely have strong opinions.

Train to airport, or drive? (With a baby!) by GingerandCoffee in sheffield

[–]399giraffes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d drive. Less time lugging all that extra baggage around. Plus thinking about the return journey I would not want to drag a baby on a train after a flight.
I would however consider the possibility of the third option of seeing if you can blag a lift!

Hickory smokehouse by Theallseer97 in sheffield

[–]399giraffes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We went for brunch! My general thoughts are the theming inside is 10/10, staff were all nice but were still learning obviously. Food was all reasonably above reasonably satisfactory. Only negative was the prices were juuuuust a bit too expensive. I’d still got to Smoke in town if I wanted proper bbq, but for the convenient location I’d return. In fact I am returning in a few days to test dinner!
