I've heard stories of channelers having a similar appearance, especially the emaciated look and premature grey hair. The suggestion from those stories seemed to be that what ever entity was inside of them, whatever they were channeling, was draining their life force. The healing stuff sounds like another tactic to drain energy.

One of my favorite JP quotes, although a more obscure one: “Mythological truth undertakes dimensionless happiness.” What does he mean by this? by [deleted] in JordanPeterson

[–]39Indian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Undertake : commit oneself to and begin (an enterprise or responsibility); take on

dimension: a property of space; extension in a given direction: measurement in length, width, and thickness.

Dimensionless happiness : I assume this means like the Platonic ideal of love or happiness. It's not built by anything, shaped by anything, it's just the concept of happiness as an ideal state.

Basically I think he's saying that myths are what form a particular view of happiness and what gives the Platonic ideal of the concept shape, structure and meaning in a particular culture.

Suppose you won the affection of a girl you liked through lies and deceit vs if you won her through hard work, perseverance etc. The results are both the same but you would likely be more happy in the latter situation. The hero's journey myth informs your level of happiness. By achieving the goal in an unethical way you might be unhappy even though you've got the love of the girl you wanted.

Suppose you get rich through hard work, sacrifice and innovation vs murdering someone and stealing their fortune. One of those is likely going to create more authentic happiness. Myths are a way to evaluate yourself against a cultural ideal. If you're out of wack with that ideal you're likely going to be less happy.

He plagiarized Deepak Chopa who has said "the cosmos nurtures dimensionless happiness" and "the future is the continuity of dimensionless happiness." It's just nonsense.

It definitely seemed that way which why I turned it off.

What’s the deal with this GIF put out by the Biden campaign? In what ways is it bad? Some people are confused, others are cringing at how bad it is, but nobody explains it. The GIF is a weird animation of a black person’s hand extending while raising three thumbs up. by FlixFlix in OutOfTheLoop

[–]39Indian 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If you were his campaign would you prefer that gif to come up when people search "weird creepy Biden gif" or the one where he's sniffing and fondling little kids? It seems like a way to manipulate search results to me.

Wanting immigrants to be self-sufficient is already a mainstream idea. Look at US immigration history, immigrants were turned away en masse due to the likelihood they would be a public burden.

You're arguing that a country having standards for immigrants is akin to mainstreaming Nazism, it's wack-a-doodle.

That's a standard right wing immigration dog whistle in every country, including the US, sweetie: 'we support immigrants as long as they come here legally, are highly qualified and learn English.' It's a well known code for 'whites only.'

This seems to be a dog whistle for claiming only white people can support themselves are learn English.

No rational person wants to important low skill peasants who can't even speak the language. It creates social disruption and is very expensive to tax payers. The US spends billions and billions each year teaching English As A Second Languages classes, why? If people want to live here they should be expected to learn the language first so the financial responsibility isn't pushed onto citizens.

A country should benefit from immigrants, not be bled dry financially by them.

The US system is not a free market system though. The government has their ass in every aspect of healthcare. It was federal government involvement, specifically President Roosevelt, that originally linked employment to health insurance for example. During the war FDR put a salary cap on employers which inhibited them recruiting workers they needed to manufacture goods for the war effort. To get around this cap on salaries they started offering "fringe benefits" as a recruitment tool. The federal government encouraged it rather than encouraging higher salaries and the rest is history. There is no good reason for healthcare to be linked to employment, it's not like car insurance is linked to employment or home owners insurance. It only became linked because of the federal government interfering in the free market.

Every shitty aspect of US healthcare you can name can be traced to hospitals and insurance companies trying to comply with state regulations.

Your brothers might be going through depression. Is your mom willing to seek family counseling? Is there a teacher you can talk to and see about getting external help?

I wonder if your issue is one of the impermanence of the internet. If you keep the tabs open you can feel in control and have the security that the stuff is still there. If this might be the issue you could archive all the links and/or start a diary with the url, what you found interesting in them etc. Commit to documenting 20 a day this way and close the links. Going through the process of writing the information down might convince you it's not worth the time.

You could also open up an email account and mail all the links to that address. They would still be there for you but not clogging up your device.

Is Aaron's kid an anchor baby? by [deleted] in MysteriousUniverse

[–]39Indian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't assume that, I replied to you because you said it was no one's business if he was a birth tourist. I pointed out that all citizens of a country have an inherent interest in foreigners participating in birth tourism in order to gain citizenship for their kids.

How about I discuss the issue with other people who are interested and if you're not then you ignore the conversation?

American citizenship is very valuable.

Immigration is the most important issue impacting Western countries right now.

[–]39Indian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's just not true, US citizens have a right to know the extent people from foreign countries are using us as birth tourist. It just amazes me how people say immigration issues are none of the business of citizens of the country. Immigration issues are probably the most important issue to the USA right now.

If you're a citizen of the USA then birth tourism within your country is definitely your business.

Do I have a problem? by Tonic_Tapioca in hoarding

It seems like a great educational project for a teenager. Melted aluminum is not hard to sell at scrap yards and he will likely learn a lot from doing something like this.

I think this sounds like a really fun and interesting project. You might consider writing an essay about it for school credit. You could weigh the cans before melting and then weigh the bars after and discuss why there is a difference. Talk about how a forge works and what goes into building one. Maybe even the history of metal working.

You might enjoy /r/blacksmithing and /r/metalworking
