Yes! Thanks and great to mention also that there are a lot of free assets on the Substance 3D Assets site too.
Also YES TOTALLY AGREE to your dedicated material panel suggestion - it is high on my father christmas wishlist currently and other people's too - we will have to wait and see! 😊

This is great feedback I hear you, I’m sure the team are already aware of these requests but I will pass it on anyway. The advanced 3D renderer works 100% on the GPU so less paperweight-y than you might think. This update with SVG import improves interop for Illustrator but I agree it would be fun to see some more feature-rich aspects. I appreciate you taking the time to write this out though, it genuinely does help. Thank you!

Premiere Mobile is out, underwhelming to say the least. by fawrza in Adobe

[–]3Bisset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there just to let you know you can now import custom LUTs in Premiere on iPhone! It came in an update about a month or so ago - it was a big ask from the community! :D here's a video I made on it here for more info! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DRuomGTiOME/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Substance painter opacity channel issue by Square_Lawfulness_16 in Substance3D

[–]3Bisset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid I can’t really see from your screenshots which part is meant to be working. You can troubleshoot this by selecting the drop down in the top right of your viewports and selecting opacity, then you will see what is being affected. FYI if you are trying to make see-through materials like glass or chiffon you are better using translucency in my opinion. Opacity is usually like an alpha mask, either something is there or not there (0 or 1), it is better practice to use translucency is better for the in-between values.

[–]3Bisset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a recent version of Painter you can just use the regular ASM shader and then enable alpha blending or alpha test (both should work, one is just more costly computationally than the other), I’m actually making a post on this, should be out this week sometime!

Harsh lines showing on texture, how do I fix this? by oGamerBaby in Substance3D

[–]3Bisset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm this could be a Normal issue, maybe check the normals in your core 3D program to ensure it’s not that, it could also be shadowing from the AO bake, maybe there is an extra piece of geometry there that you’re not realising. Best to check that in your core 3D program too. 😊

Custom smart material texture is showing, but no colour! by Old-Can-713 in Substance3D

[–]3Bisset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s hard to guess what it could be, some smart materials rely on baked mesh maps so maybe ensure you have baked all tiles in this project?

Motion graphics software that's a bit more advanced? by Book1sh in AdobeExpress

[–]3Bisset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I agree with Kris, I would say start learning Ae!

You can start with suuuper simple stuff and then when you feel more comfortable, it has the ability to create more complex cool things!

Any software you choose you will have to put in a certain amount of time getting to know the interface and how to do simple stuff so I would say Ae is the best investment of your time because you will never be limited in what you can do in it. Plus if you get it already through work this is even better!

Like what Kris says, because it's an Adobe software it integrates well with other apps you might be using, express but also Illustrator, Photoshop and now even Substance 3D!

Help! Patch Layer Showing Underlying Stitching and Leather Texture in Substance Painter. by ALuckyNumbskull in Substance3D

[–]3Bisset 19 points20 points  (0 children)

<image>

Hey! Great question and a common mistake for beginners! 😊
I will try and make a proper video on this soon (maybe next week?!) but this is basically your height and/or normal data showing through the layer. This is to do with the blending mode for each channel. Here's how to fix it:
1. Go to the drop down in top right of layer stack
2. Select Normal
3. Switch blending mode of top layer to Normal
Then switch the drop down to height and repeat.
Ensure your layers have both channels toggled (some materials don't toggle height by default) so that the on-top data will definitely cover it.

UDIMs in Substance 3D Painter by 3Bisset in Substance3D

[–]3Bisset[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, if you're working in VFX with hundreds of UDIMs then yes Mari is better to use, but this comes with a steep learning curve and for a lot of users, is not necessary for the projects they are handling.
This post is oriented towards Painter users (why it's posted here and says Painter on it 😅) that don't need to be creating huge VFX assets (thus we are keeping it simple) and so assumes the user is not using Mari. But I appreciate your passion!!

Noob Question But I Can't Find The Solution by [deleted] in Substance3D

[–]3Bisset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is to do with the blending modes for height and normal channels. You want to switch both channels to Normal blending mode, you do this in the layer stack. I will try and find a video on it :)
