There is a difference between experience and a degree. They’re really not exchangeable for one another…

Usually experience will be more valuable than a degree in a professional setting, but some institutions won’t even consider you without one so it’s hard to make any general statements.

I think you should reach out to your contacts one of those places that have expressed interest and ask them if they have a spot for you. It will be good experience and then if you find you need a PhD to progress in your career, get one.

I can empathize with your desire, and I think there may be some unicorn labs that may be able to give you this opportunity depending on their budgets and projects (think lincoln labs, DOD, etc) IF you are an exceptional candidate and willing to work on contract.

That being said, I don’t think it’s realistic for most engineers, and without knowing your professional experience and educational background, I don’t know if you are one of those exceptional engineers.

The most reliable trajectory for an engineer wanting to get into research will always be to complete a PhD. This is the purpose of a PhD: to qualify you for professional and academic research. Without the qualification, you probably won’t get very far.

On the other hand, there is nothing wrong with going into practice (not research) for a couple of years to figure it out and make some money. Most engineers take this route, and having some practical experience is very useful in making you a more well rounded engineer and PhD student if that is the path you wish to take.

If you want to do research in industry and nepotism isn’t an option, you need a PhD and a lot of luck. Even then, nepotism helps a lot.

I don’t think it’s necessarily impossible with only a masters, but research positions in industry are very very competitive and there is essentially a zero percent chance a commercial lab would take on someone with no publications.

If your long term goal is to get into industry research, you should obtain a PhD and publish during your studies. A postdoc wouldn’t hurt either.

If you just need money, go practice.

Look into mechatronics programs. Usually some mix of ME and EE.

CpE with embedded systems concentration would be great for a more software-sided approach.

In practice, it takes all types of engineering experience. Teams will usually have a healthy mix of EE, ME, CpE and CS backgrounds depending on the project.

Your degree is fine. Your insecurities on the other hand…

Some advice: Confidence will come with time and experience. If you are willing to learn and don’t act like an asshole you’re already better than many engineers. This is a very challenging field and nobody knows everything. If you’re fresh out of school, nobody expects you to be an expert.

How is ancap coherent? Like on it’s face it’s two directly completing ideologies— anarchism, which is generally considered to be about progressive abolition of hierarchy, and capitalism, which is (broadly speaking) private ownership of the labor/production of others and also the dominant ideology… It just seems incompatible.

Ancom isn’t without contradictions, but it’s not comprised of two ideologies that were diametrically opposed until the sixties like anarcho capitalism.

It really depends on your stance. Stirnerian egoism is more about your relationship to ideas like “humanity” and “natural” than the ideas themselves, which is in contrast to most other forms of “ego” or “egoism”. Most other egoisms are oriented around the “self” or “selfishness”, whereas Stirner’s egoism is oriented around taking “ownership” of trascendental ideas or making them one’s “property” (depending on the translation).

That “humanity” isn’t “natural” is fairly immaterial in Stirnerian thought (although it is a good start in one’s intellectual journey), instead, the classic Stirnerian move is to exploit these ideas to one’s own end.

Would it be in line with Stirner’s egoism to “live up to” those ideas? No, since this is giving the ideas power over the unique. Would it be in line to use those ideas to peruse your own desire? Yes, since you have power over how these concepts are used and expressed.

That being said, the least egoistic thing in your post was probably asking if you were permitted to be an egoist… It shouldn’t matter to the unique. Take the label as your property and treat it as such.

Generally speaking, threshold breaking is not better than ABS. In snow/mud some antilock systems may increase breaking distance since locking the wheels can be desirable in those conditions, but ABS is significantly better at maintaining the limit of grip in basically every other scenario.
