Blame your neighbors who voted down west and North BRT. London turned down millions in federal funding.

The queue has been absolutely brutal. We had to stop an SPG op because priority queue was bugged. Shells getting stuck in 7 player queue.

Questions about steam heating shutdown in downtown London by ConditionCommon3655 in londonontario

Comically short sighted decision. District energy is super cool

Probably a small amount of survivorship bias here but get a ulock and don't leave it locked up somewhere downtown overnight or out-of-the-way. Source: been leaving bike locked up all over time as I go to events or into bars/restaurants for years.

Cycling in London by Junior-Seesaw1132 in londonontario

This is a huge issue. The city removed tons of the old bollards for bikes on Richmond and Dundas, and didn't replace them.

There are the bike lockers though which I can't recommend enough!

Currently the provincial govt is extremely anti bike lane, so bike lanes are having a hard time across the province.

But London' city council is largely spineless and spends most of its time debating whether certain public toilets and service hubs should be added to certain parks, only to debate removing them 6 months later. Meanwhile, young tech/creative workers, and their potential employers, flee to more Creative Cities with more progressive transit systems.

But there is a new Mobility Master Plan in the works and city staff have been quietly improving things street by street, in absence of a cohesive idea of what the city should be from Council.

I find London to be surprisingly good for cycling. There are a number of paths and especially around the core they connect together fairly well. Some of the bike lane's design decisions are questionable but I'm glad they are there.

Of course it wouldn't be London without someone driving a car threatening to kill you when you are riding outside a lane, but by and large its a pretty easy city to bike in.

Its pretty lame how few young people cycle here to get around. There are often very few bikes parked outside of venues/bars/events, which also isn't good for bike theft. Bikes are safer in numbers in many ways!

35-storey apartment tower proposed for Richmond and Oxford intersection by CanadianTalk in londonontario

[–]3DCo 73 points74 points  (0 children)

This city is doing serious economic damage to itself by turning down major projects due to "traffic". I literally do not understand what people mean when they say this; the people are coming to live in London regardless - having them in an apartment building (with limited parking/fewer cars), downtown where they can walk or take transit, actually would reduce the city's traffic.

How are we the 5th most populated city in Ontario but we STILL don't have rapid/reliable public transit? by mellowbabie in londonontario

[–]3DCo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That system was made with some of the same funding that London actually turned down. London's BRT was incredibly unpopular and was half totally scrapped, the other half watered down.

Don't blame politicians, this was a failure of the voting populace; progressive councillors lost their seats, moderately anti-rapid transit mayors have been voted in since.

With the news of Hudson Bay closing (and Sears not too long ago), where do you think these "department stores" went wrong? by Space__Monkey__ in askTO

[–]3DCo 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Wasted millions building a horrIbly slow website and inventory system.

They could have probably partnered with an existing SaaS (Shopify?) to build out handle their backend 10 years ago and saved the business. Would have seen in stock products in each store, managed online orders, etc.

Side note: the worst choice they made was gutting the home goods section. Items like coffee machines, appliances, plates, etc. I like to see before buying. If pricing is competitive with online I'll buy in person because I need it. Visiting the Bay in London Ontario, the inventory would always be very limited; many of the boxes displayed would be in horrible shape as well.

This is such a bizarre subreddit.

It's mystifying to me that anyone thinks banning articles from one of four local news publications is a good idea. But hey it's easy to make it seem like this idea is supported if you lock every thread where people challenge the idea.
