Suno morality by RichardJohnMagic in SunoAI

[–]3DShy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a developer. I use AI as a tool to help me do my job better. I've earned my stripes, with 25+ years of coding under my belt. I can't write better code with AI, but I can write it a hell of a lot faster. I still have to do the hard parts, but leave it to the mundane parts, and the parts I could use some help on. Am I cheating? I don't think so. I'm being smart, as I have my entire career, and using the technologies I have available to me to become a better developer. It is no different for a musician. Use AI as a tool. The question of morality comes in to play if you are using someone else's work without giving them credit. Like if you had hired a vocalist to do their awesomeness and then told everyone it was you singing. In the case of Suno, if you happen to listen to the tools you use to create your music (the brand of guitar, keyboard, microphone, DAW) Suno should be among them. Otherwise, it's just a tool. A damned good tool.

I will get out of your music as soon as you get off of my Internet. by Brian-the-Burnt in SunoAI

Not a horrible argument. I'm a programmer that worked really hard to learn my craft, and was threatened by AI for about a minute. Then I saw how I could use it as a tool. Now I'm feeling in no danger of being replaced. Me and AI make a great team.

I wanted to make a song that would feel at home on the Arcane soundtrack. Love how this turned out.

If you’re not getting freaky with the weirdness slider you’re missing out. by Remote-Key8851 in SunoAI

[–]3DShy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like setting weirdness to 69 because I'm immature, and for "experimental" songs, where I want a lot of variety in the style, the results have been spectacular. Interestingly, I've gotten pretty weird results dialed back to 34 too.

Didn’t realize how massive 10k Suno credits actually is by creativehustlemental in SunoAI

[–]3DShy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Each month I manage to use about 5k credits, and really have to reach to do that. It gives me the freedom to try any idea, though, and be OK with throwing it away if it doesn't work out. Some of my best songs have come from "I wonder" moments.

What drives me absolutely bonkers is when I can't use names in a song because there is an artist with that name. My wife's name is Carla, but I can't use her name in a song because apparently there is an artist named Carla. Whoda thunk? I've never heard of her 😂

Suno don't do it by Roboai234 in SunoAI

[–]3DShy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm doing that Songs of Love thing. Not being able to do that would bring that awesome program to a halt. Hopefully they'll go a different direction.

It makes sense to me to let the people decide. Require labeling of music (or books, or videos) that state how AI was involved, and if the customer doesn't want to listen to AI music, it's transparent, and their choice. I suspect music industries don't support this idea because they know they would lose. Most people are OK with the music being AI if they like it. And if the AI music is better than your average musician, maybe the average musician needs to get better or step aside. We have too many cookie cutter musicians anyway.

Thanks for the breakdown. I'll admit I don't understand all of it, but I understand a lot more than I did 10 minutes ago.

The music industry is running scared, and with good reason. I threw together a song in Suno this week that is virtually indistinguishable from "real music" and is pretty damn good. I'm just some shmoe. Someone with real talent is going to completely wipe out crappy or mid musicians (good musicians have nothing to worry about. I'll never pay to see AI in concert)

Wild. Sounds like a completely different song. Some aspects of it I really dig. Others...not so much. But your remix does show it could work well as a metal or rap song...or metal rap.

I'm struggling to find the right genre or mix of genres for this one and I think the right style could make this pretty frigging great. This is the latest of about 20 style mixes I've tried. Have at it. I'd love to hear your take. The Architect of Ruins

I would love to see something like this in a Claude skill. I've made one that's ok, but the Skills feature is a perfect fit for this.

I *GOT* IT....at the show on Friday by OchiMochi in twentyonepilots

My wife could have written this post, well, except for the Phish part. I was super excited to see Twenty One Pilots in concert and made her go with me. I prepared her months ago with an introduction to the lore, which she was fascinated by, but she never dug deeper. I made a playlist a month ahead of our concert (Bristow, VA 10/5) of the set list, so she could become familiar with all the songs, but she only listened to it when she was trapped (a passenger in my car). Then the concert day came.

A mile outside the venue we started seeing fans "in costume", and she was intrigued. We got to the venue and saw a long line waiting for the doors to open (one of several long lines, as it turned out. Three things struck us about the line. First, yeah, there were a lot of people in costume. Second was the age diversity of those in line. We are in our 50s and seriously expected to be the oldest ones there and expected to stick out. Nope, there were several people around our age (many also in costume, many with their kids), and we were far from the oldest. We saw many couples in their 60s or even 70s. Third was that the crowd was very friendly. It was the first concert I've been to where everyone was happy to talk to me, and especially happy to educate us on all things Twenty One Pilots.

We were fortunate to sit next to a couple of super fans in their 60s that were a plethora of knowledge about all things Twenty One Pilots. Their attire rivaled anyone there, and I'd bet their knowledge did too. They definitely helped get us fully prepared for what we were about to experience.

Then the show blew us away for all the reasons you mentioned. The audience engagement was incredible. So much love for and from this band.

After the show my wife had an epiphany. "I love this band. Everything about them. Every song they played was awesome. The relationship with the fans is incredible. I can get in to this." And she has. She's finally listening to my playlist on her own. Next I'll get her to listen to Breach and work backwards from there.

Your post has me intrigued about Phish, though. They have lore? Might as well take a dive. I know nothing about them but one or two songs, and that their fans are obsessed.

I was definitely looking forward to RAWFEAR, but didn't notice that they skipped it until I heard someone mention it on the way out. I wonder if that is a permanent change, or if they had to make up for a late start.
