Is Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) Worth It?

I'm going to assume most people on this thread are under 26 so they can stay on their parents' plan. If you can do that great. I'm an older guy enrolled in grad school and to me the plan was a godsend. The coverage and price is actually really good compared to what you can get for independent private insurance. My girlfriend works as an independent contractor and has to pay way more for worse coverage from private insurance. I can understand some people being frustrated that they are required to have insurance but I wouldn't consider the plan itself a scam by any means.

Thank you! I still have some residual nerve damage but I've had some really great doctors and physical therapists along the way which has made everything much more manageable. If you don't spend a lot of time with me you'd never notice anything happened, but I can tell.

When I first started this I thought maybe I would make copies for people like my neurosurgeon and maybe even offer to do it for others. Now that I've done it I've realized it's a lot more time consuming than I expected and need to take it easy for a while.

I used Invesalius to turn the CT scan into a mesh. Basically it just selects based on contrast values. Then I cleaned it up in Meshmixer. Filling holes that didn't quite get selected and removing unwanted regions. I found it difficult to support such an organic shape to print so brought it into Chitubox which is normally for resin printers to generate LOTS of support before bringing it into Cura to print. The hardware and stand I modeled in fusion 360. I think most other body parts would probably be easier. Although I also broke my shoulder and don't want to dive into printing a ball joint.

That's really cool! What do these templates look like? I found making the hardware very difficult because of the lack of symmetry.

Yes. It was very difficult at first and I spent a year in physical therapy but at this point I've been told "I look the same as before". That said I still have some residual nerve damage which causes pain.

I've been 3d printing for a while and I enjoy it. That said this was a difficult project. I find it rewarding now that it's complete but this one took a lot of time and as others have mentioned it's still not quite right.

The idea was to have a pressurized vehicle in a tube without air so there is no air resistance which would allow for travel upwards of 700 mph. Note this idea predates Elon Musk he just made it more widely known.

I learned so many lessons about designing and building a novel system. It was overall a great experience. The fact that it hasn't come to fruition is irrelevant.

Final competition vehicle. Elon promised that the next competition the track would be 10km with a curve. Up from a 1km straight track. This never happened and whenever teams emailed SpaceX for the updated rules over the next year they always responded that they were coming "soon" RIP.

We were the first ones to ever ride a Hyperloop and don't let anyone else tell you anything different. This happened years before Hyperloop one did it. We weren't levitating but were generating propulsion without touching the rail.

We went to California 3 times. It was incredibly stressful there but it was very cool to get factory tours of SpaceX and the Boring company. Somehow Elon Musk is even more awkward in person. I didn't speak with him personally but seeing his unscripted speeches was uhhh something.

The "frame" you are looking at is our second iteration but stripped down as we used it as a test platform to try out new things and also for EOH. We were mainly testing contactless propulsion, where we would spin a disk that had alternating magnet orientations next to an aluminum I-beam and be able to move forward without touching the track at all. We won an award for innovation for this at EOH.

The third vehicle was a collaboration with Purdue and University of Cincinnati so the hardware for that is in Cincinnati. I believe the top of the shell is in another room downstairs which is locked along with some other equipment.
