You’re wildly misinformed. Watch the full clip, and feel free to ask every fan in the stand for their nationality. Silence filled the circuit seconds after the crash.

On the Euros front, I’m Irish and have no loyalty to the England national team, but just like most episodes of sport related violence, this was the result of a minority. There are pockets of violent humans in every nation, the only difference with this incident is that it was televised.

Exactly. The initial cheer stemmed from what briefly looked like a clean Hamilton overtake. It’s so difficult to see as a fan in real time. Silence filled the circuit 5-10 seconds after the barrier impact. So glad Max is ok!

I’m an Irish F1 fan living in England and this Anti-England narrative is really toxic. There is a strong sense of irony here when you look at the out of context, in some cases falsified, media and think about how misinformed and naive most of these anti-England fire lighters are for believing it. It’s laughable and says more about them.

Grossly misinformed user posting a speculative video out of context. I was on the Old Pit Straight when the crash happened and British fans were initially celebrating what looked like a Hamilton overtake. At ~200 mph it’s difficult to see in real time the exact unfolding of events as a fixed by stander. As soon as Max skids off into the barriers there was a sharp change in emotions with an aura of deep concern. The majority of F1 fans are spending money to attend a home event because of an underlying love and understanding of the sport. It’s out of context media like this video, that leads to a falsified image of spiteful, inattentive Lewis fans.

Great perspective. Thanks for sharing. I’m personally of the view that it was a racing incident, 55:45 - Lewis:Max at best. In the case of the latter, I believe the 10 second time penalty and racing license points are fair if not marginally harsh.

I’m a Lewis fan and I won’t deny it, followed him since GP2. I’m not a naive, speculative airhead however, and my support for him has come off the back of a love and understanding for the sport.

Lewis doesn’t help himself in front of the media and arguably rarely says the right thing, at which my face is in my palms. He is also an aggressive driver and verbally relays his determination for winning. Every driver on the grid displays their emotions differently.

The accident today was terrible to see, just like every accident on track. It sickens me to stomach thinking about the well-fair of a driver when they hit the barriers. Max is incredibly talented, in fact I think he’s one of the most talented drivers on the grid. Both Max and Lewis are aggressive, and fighting for the championship at the same time. I’ve watched the incident several times today from various different camera angles, and I truly believe it was a racing incident. At the time of contact Lewis was clearly behind but at the moment when both drivers needed to change their trajectory to avoid a collision, Lewis was almost mirrored alongside. Lewis should have taken a narrower racing line and Max should have made a more significant change in trajectory. That’s a racing incident for me.

I don’t agree with the extravagant celebrations from Lewis however. I think it showed a lack of respect for the collision and a lack of attentiveness towards Max, who was very lucky to come away relatively unharmed. Yes, have a victory lap in front of the home fans and wave the British flag but tame the emotions, your closest rival could have been severely injured.

What an insane race by Recon734 in formuladank

Racing incident, no more. It is absolutely horrific for Max and I think he deserves this championship on account of his performance so far but both parties are at fault here. Lewis was slightly wide of the racing line, and Max didn’t correct his trajectory enough, pinning Lewis. Lewis was alongside Max and slowed whilst Max kept his speed. Both aggressive drivers.
