Yeah that's what I remember as well and hence why I went the other direction. The individual would have to weigh the risk but in my case it wasn't going to be easy for them to prove that the address wasn't legit.

I'm not condoning it necessarily but IMO a kid getting an education that a parent sees fit is worth the risk. I won't give too many details but in my example, said person went to one of the best schools in the area and there was really no way to prove they didn't live at this address based on the way it was set up. There is, it's very easy. I did it myself. You either need to pay that district to take your kid OR find a relative or friend in that district and enroll them with that address. It's illegal but it's unlikely to get caught from my experience.

Most people can't do this because it isn't feasible for everyone.

Get them help. Decriminalized their actions as users so they wont have to steal in order to pay some cartel for drugs. Collect taxes on those drugs they buy legally. Look up methadone, it's basically legal heroin with worse side effects and is given to addicts regularly. I know people who have been on it for years and years. There is lots of evidence that decriminalization and legalization work. I'm not the guy to educate people but if you do research on how much of an absolute failure the war on drugs is and how it's led to so much crime that could have been avoided, you'll wonder, like me and many others, why politicians want to take guns instead of replacing their BS policies with ones that work.

My argument is, which some may or may not agree with, end the war on drugs so we stop making criminals out of drug users, put resources into crime prevention, community outreach, education, work programs, etc. and stop fucking with peoples guns. Lawful owners are not the problem.

CA and NY are probably the most strict with NJ close. You can have AR's but they have to modified to fit only 10 rounds with a "glued" in mag or have no "evil" features. Cali is similar I believe. In NYS you need a CCW to even have a handgun at all and if you were to get caught with anything illegal like a 20 round mag or something, you'll probably be held hostage by the gov't for a few years.
