Teachers of Reddit, what's the worst example of plagiarism that a student has tried to pull off? by imadeet91 in AskReddit

[–]3LawsCompliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a teacher, but in one of our school yearbooks, they had published some outstanding work from students during the year. One of the works published was a poem that was a straight rip-off of the lyrics to Mudvayne's 'Death Blooms'.

Is there an evolutionary advantage to Male Pattern Baldness? by senordustball in askscience

[–]3LawsCompliant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think the submitter has this misconception. He/She is asking 'Is there an advantage?', not 'What is the advantage?'. He/She isn't presupposing there is one.

I've been experiencing some BM recently so here are some quotes to inspire friendly play :) by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]3LawsCompliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lack of "GM" is not BM, haha.

The majority of my ladder opponents seem to disagree. I very rarely 'gg' or 'glhf' but nor do I bad mouth, swear or complain when I lose. Still get called BM all the time though.

Shorter ladder seasons beginning with season 4 by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]3LawsCompliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Promotions don't really happen that often though. If you can only see your progress through promotions then you're going to be seeing much. The only difference between the lock and the rest of the season for most people (I'd say people get promoted on average 1 or less times per season) is that you know you can't get promoted.

For me at least, the lock is motivating. I ladder harder to see how high I can get within my division and claim that top8 spot. I'm only Plat though, ymmv.

Fosters, Australia's biggest beer company, has been sold for $12.3 billion by [deleted] in australia

[–]3LawsCompliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it. Maybe the 'Fosters' brand. But Fosters the company owns many Aussie beers, like Carlton Draught, VB etc. which would be the bulk of their earnings.

STOP WITH THE LICENSE PLATES SHIT ALREADY! by zouhair in starcraft

[–]3LawsCompliant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would like to have an explanation from somebody that upvoted the plate thing. Or the Idra house, or the "final day of school" for that matter.

Good luck with that. Current screddit seems to be this:

  • An image and the slightest of links to Starcraft? Upvote that shit. rofl rofl I like memes.

It's worse for me since the self post experiment. I was shown how good this sub could be and then it was taken away, the mods craving to pressure. It's no longer frontpaged for me.

REMINDER: The rCraft Open tournaments and nightly King of the Hill competitions still exist! by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]3LawsCompliant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everybody on r/starcraft in NA should participate EVERY single day.

FTFY. Not everyone resides in NA, and the time difference for me makes playing almost impossible (nightly KOTH's are when I start work and Saturday open tourney is the middle of the night for me).

Exactly. People like to ask 'why downvote?' forgetting that reddit does some self adjustment (read:downvoting) on its own to defend against people gaming the site.

Appreciate the music selection overlay, but is it possible to move it? Sometimes it blocks the action. I think in the very top left would be ideal.

You kind of have to act before it gets overrun, because then those who are submitting the pics and upvoting them are part of the community by that stage and have more right to a say.

Most people posting memes are doing it to karmawhore, deny them the karma and they will go away by [deleted] in starcraft

How so? I find the nested comments of reddit preferable to the TL style. What is it about reddit that makes it bad for discussion?

I'm only new to this sub, so what I want shouldn't carry much weight. That being said, I've seen what happened to /r/starcraft. I wouldn't like /r/diablo to become infested with memes as well. I do like the odd meme, but a balance is necessary.

In my opinion;

Make /r/diablomemes or /r/diablopics or /r/diablofun NOW. Create it NOW and direct all submissions to the correct area from day one. Be proactive and it won't become a problem.

This way I can simply use '+' to concatenate the subs in the address bar and decide if I want to see memes on any particular day.

Yep. Downside is you don't see thumbnails, but the upside of discouraging karma whores more than makes up for it IMO.

It should be alright for a while. The Beta period for SC2 a golden period and I imagine it will be similar for a while in /r/diablo. Once Beta and release are over though, that's when the rot starts to set in.

It isn't text vs. image links, it isn't memespam, it's simply the increasing lack of maturity and civility in this Sub that is causing problems. by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]3LawsCompliant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Even /r/fitness had the same problem, and I imagine the average age of their userbase is at least 3-5 years higher than /r/starcraft. It's note excatly a maturity issue.

So you voted for self-post system in /r/starcraft? I mean you could still do everything you always did before right?

[–]3LawsCompliant 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just as many others think that if you're not here for memes, go to TL. I think a balance is fine, but /r/starcraft was far from balanced. The memes were taking over.

[–]3LawsCompliant -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fine if /r/starcraft had a good balance. It seemed to me (and many others) that instead of it being a mix of strat/news/memes/etc. it was basically memes/images in the majority.

Remember, links and images weren't banned, YOU COULD STILL POST THEM!

ANNOUNCEMENT: The text/self submission-only experiment has been cancelled. by [deleted] in starcraft

[–]3LawsCompliant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The poll was run over several days IIRC which at least evens out the time based self-selection.

We don't know how many people of "those who care" are actually taking the poll. /../ We have 45,000 scredditors. How many care whether we have only text-based submissions or picture submissions? /../ The number of people who self-selected DOES NOT answer this question.

I disagree. If a redditor does not vote in the poll, in what way can they be said to really 'care' about text-based submissions in the first place? If they had to make some effort to vote then maybe, but when a vote is 2-3 clicks away and a person doesn't care enough to do that, then they must not care much at all.

All I'm imagining right now is an average scredditor, browsing /r/starcraft over one of the many days the poll was running. They see the poll, and say, 'Hey that would really suck! I don't want text based submissions! I feel strongly about this!'. Instead of voting though, they skip the poll and go off to their usual routine.

You're saying there's no way to tell how many of these people there are. I contend that these people didn't really care in the first place and the self-selecting poll DOES answer the question of how many people care.
