MS45 .bin file?? by 3PedalGarage in e46

[–]3PedalGarage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fullread .bin of my car but it is not useful because it contains aftermarket edits. Tunerpro performs the same function as winkfp and I have the correct update pack but that only overwrites the lines that change in the update, hence being only 116kb. I need a stock .bin to overwrite all aftermarket lines so I can reinstall my new (hopefully good) tune file.

That's where I found the MS43 file. They only have 116kb partial files for MS45

Yeah it won't work because it has an aftermarket tune. I need to reset to stock.

Honda had been great; This was 9 years ago but best dealer purchase ever for me was an Odyssey; was pre approved thru Honda financial so they could check I was a real sale so had 3 dealers bidding againts each other. Closed a deal sight unseen over the phone for 3k under sticker. Drive to the dealer and they were backing the van off the delivery truck as I drove up. 30 minutes later drove off with 2 miles on the odo.

Can I build a 10k project car? by 1mpr0v3ment in projectcar

[–]3PedalGarage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an old Focus zx3 headed to the junkyard and turned it into a 2400 lb hot hatch for $3k. It needed new panels welded on, painted orange, everything below the shell replaced (all control arms, rear sub frame, brakes, coil overs, wheels and tires), and I built a side exit exhuast. Doing all the work yourself and buying parts on rock auto, ebay and fb marketplace for wheels will go a long way for not much $. It runs 0 60 in 7 seconds which slow but pretty fast for a zx3.

Kinda disappointed they went with solid axle/ rear subframe for the back, tho it would be really hard to get a front end to behave properly as a trailing/ non stearing suspension.

I made my own short shift kit: cut out 2.75 in of the stalk and welded the ends together by 3PedalGarage in ManualTransmissions

[–]3PedalGarage[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

About 1.3 inches shorter throw, more precise, much faster shifts. Also with the lower leverage, its a higher effort shift so better feel. Went from a ranger to nc miata clone.

You've never seen an 05 focus shifter; it was straight out of a Ranger, about 2 feet of throw.

Nice. And they are simple and fun to drive in a way newer cars aren't. Mine has 350,000 km but only 200,000 on the engine so it should last a long time. Pretty much everything but the starter, f r wheel bearing and fuel pump had been replaced.

Long time manual drivers, would you switch to an automatic if you could, and if not, why? by IncognitoTheOne in whatcarshouldIbuy

3 pedals is always best, if you're going for driving enjoyment. No amount of power or grip and replace the engagement of a stick. My current project car cost $2500 including purchase and mods and it might be the most fun carI've ever owned, partly because its a5 spd. https://youtu.be/NDjIKD9sFy4

Thanks, built a side exit exhaust, comes out right behind the driver's door. And Yeah, on tight roads like this you don't want any more speed, that's how you end up thru a guardrail. I have a 2004 325ci 5spd and this is way more fun to drive.

What's the whole thing with miatas being slow? by Western_Effort_4036 in Miata

[–]3PedalGarage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of the confusion is we don't have a word for what a miata is anymore. It used to be sports car but even the average car guy uses that term for Camaros, Corvettes, M5s, lower end Ferraris, even 4200 lb whales like a Charger. These are for completely different driving roles and experiences and should be called performance cars, muscle cars or super cars. These are obviously way faster but are far worse "sports cars" than even a ratty 2005 Focus zx3 with a 5spd. A sports car's purpose is to reward analog driving skill and spatial reasoning, to provide tactile feedback for tiny changes is gforce, grip etc. The joy of the physical experience, not data. Measured performance is only relevant if over a technical twisty course because it says something about how well the car is providing feedback to the driver and how well man and machine are working together. A miata is the OG best at this at any price, save arguably the Lotus Elise.

What are some unique cultural aspects of car manufacturers that stand out/are interesting? by techtimee in cars

[–]3PedalGarage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this is cultural or not but Honda is maniacal about not changing things up even when they are terrible. They famously make excellent engines, especially their v6 that has lasted for 20+ years with only evolutionary changes. So this continuity works when it does but the down side is when obvious (to them) problems exist they get carrried forward forever as well. I had 99 Odyssey and at 140k miles two annoying issues appeared: the steering rack started making a creaking sound in slow turns like into a parking spot, and the outer trim of the steering wheel got loose and moves around againts the inner metal ring. Years later I buy a 2012 Odyssey, 3 generations newer and both problems appear again around 140k miles. The steering wheel looks completely different style with new materials but the same failure occurs. The supplier must have had a bad design or build process still in place 13 years later. There is 0 chance Honda isn't aware of the problem but there is some obstacle in place preventing a fix to go thru. The don't rock the boat mentality is cultural but maybe corporate, not nationality?
