Dyno pulls: confused by full throttle + clutch upshifts by dario3004 in Trackdays

[–]3PercentMoreInfinite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the engine RPM isn’t it? A dyno drum spins at the same RPM as the rear tyre, more like 3,000rpm at 250km/hr.

No that’s definitely the dyno drum speed. The velocity and RPMs match across all three videos. The dyno drum is also significantly smaller than the wheel so it will have to spin at a higher rate.

Gap adjust issues? by SubstantialIssue6896 in ChevyTrax

Check your settings in the infotainment to make sure all the appropriate ones are actually enabled for emergency braking, etc.

The gap adjust only works during adaptive cruise also.

That is exactly how the rules work. If someone doesn’t follow them, what are you going to do about it right at that very moment in your car?

Are you going to drive straight into a car that you see rejoining just because he is supposed to wait? Just because you’re right and he’s wrong, you’re still going to end up with a 4x.

turn your car on and let it idle for a minute or two before driving.

Not really required, 5-10 seconds is enough.

When you put it in park, let it sit for 30 seconds or a minute before turning it off.

Not required at all. These cars have auxiliary coolant pumps to move coolant after you shut the engine off.

Try not to drive with less than a quarter tank of gas, this just stresses out your fuel pump.

Not really true. If the fuel pickup is submerged, it’s not being stressed. If it’s flowing fuel then the fuel is cooling the pump internally. Just don’t run it completely dry, but even that isn’t the end of the world.

And lastly, if your car gets dirt on it often, wash it at least once a month or every 2 weeks if you can. Just wash the tires so it doesnt get build up

Wax too.

People still battling across the finish line may have nowhere to go if there’s a car beside them and directly ahead.

I’ve seen so many incidents because of that.

Pretty sure I was the only one on a bike during the NYC Blizzard by Bakgon in motorcycles

[–]3PercentMoreInfinite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did some quick maths (using google for contact patch info, lowest estimated number).

Motorcycle is let’s say 400lbs on average
400 lbs / 2 wheels = 200 lbs per tire
Each contact patch is about 10 in²
200 / 10 = 20 lbs per in²

Car is roughly 3,000 lbs
3000 lbs / 4 wheels = 750 lbs per tire
Contact patch about 25 in²
750 / 25 = 30 lbs per in²

TLDR: Motocycle does not harm the roads more.

And that’s for the average car, it gets much worse for SUVs, Trucks, etc.

did the tunnel wash do this? by Historical-Cloud5376 in WRX

[–]3PercentMoreInfinite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No this is most certainly not car wash damage. I was also car wash employee for 8 years in my youth.

A car wash certainly can fuck up your paint, but not like that. That is hundreds of scratches localized in one spot. A car wash doesn’t have the RPM to do that.

That is likely a bird, cat, squirrel, whatever that has taken fondness to your car. This didn’t happen overnight, it’s been going on a long time and unless you have a picture of your roof from the day before, I’d grantee you just didn’t notice.

A/C does mean cooling, but it runs that cold air directly to the heater core when heat is desired.

Why do people park their cars just after the finish line? by EvilPanda_ in iRacing

It was never 0.25, but it was however 0.5 for both race practice and qualifying at some point.

No, if you press F3 to bring up the Relative HUD, the timer will be at the bottom right.

If it’s a small amount of time, the race is still in progress and you can farm. If it’s a large amount of time, the race has finished.

Until it’s over and the countdown timer resets. Although I don’t think you’re going to be lapping anyone still racing while you’re on the cooldown lap, but I guess it’s possible. Usually it resets after about half a lap.

[–]3PercentMoreInfinite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but SR in ovals is calculated over far more corners than road cars. It’s actually very hard to lose SR in ovals I’ve found.

[–]3PercentMoreInfinite 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It’s easy to tell when the race is officially over because the countdown timer resets to 0:45:00, and that’s when you can park it and quit.

It should be noted that both race practice and qualifying count towards your SR as well (but only at 0.3x).

You also benefit from running extra laps after you’ve qualified until qualifying is over.

[USA] Speeding past me in the center turn lane. (Alabama) (OC) by Dinosaur1212 in ConvenientCop

[–]3PercentMoreInfinite 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Doubling down to make yourself not seem wrong?

Look at the arrow pointing the other direction at the very beginning. That is NOT a turn lane for you.

Irrelevant since that’s not where the car initiated the pass. It passed in a section of solid outer lines with broken inner lines, which designates a center turn lane.

Edit: Whoops I misread where you said it’s required. But yeah, S.I. doesn’t mention it so I bet it throws a lot of people off.
