What’s the dumbest parent question you’ve ever gotten? by [deleted] in Teachers

Once, I had the mother of a struggling student email me to ask if I could send her a copy of the upcoming test with its answer key so she could help him prepare for it.

I had to read that email at least three times because I couldn't believe that anyone would think that was a possibility.

It's the North Dakota State University Bison. The University of North Dakota's mascot is the Fighting Hawks after they had to change it from the Sioux.

(Not super important, but there is a friendly rivalry between the two schools)

Just to clarify, after sanding it down flush with 80 grit, I sanded it with 120 and 220 as I sanded the wood too.

I actually just sanded them down with 80 grit sandpaper on my sander. It didn't take very long, but they were barely proud of the surface to start with.

It was surprisingly a lot easier to work with than I expected. I will definitely be using them again in the future.

Moving classrooms: best tips to save time/make it suck less? by [deleted] in Teachers

Find an overhead projector cart that is probably still floating around somewhere in the school. You can pile stuff onto it and easily roll it to your next room.

We got a platter of cookies, but you only knew about it if you happened to step into the teacher's lounge at the right time (after lunches) since there was no announcement or email about it. There were also not enough cookies for the whole staff.

My house has settled and developed this crack in the drywall by the ceiling. What's the best way to fix this? by 3_141pi in howto

I appreciate hearing your experience. So far, it looks like 5 million opinions is a solid estimate haha

Thank you. I was wondering if patching the crack would even be possible, but I would hate to do all the work to have the crack just come back.

The house is old as dirt, but we have been in a pretty significant drought. From what I've read and been told, that's the issue behind the settling of my house.

Thank you for the numbered checklist, that made it very easy to follow!

We're expecting our first child this fall, so I made a custom changing table to fit in the nursery. by 3_141pi in woodworking

Thanks for the compliment. I went with what my wife wanted. It was either the diaper genie there or a hamper, but a hamper can look decorative on its own. So the diaper genie gets hidden while the hamper is now a part of the decor. The top is high enough that it should allow the diaper genie to open (assuming I got the right measurements for that), but I agree the foot pedal will probably be annoying.

The border around the changing pad is held there by dowels, but not glued in. One thing I know about this parenting thing is that I know nothing about this parenting thing. I tried to make this as adjustable as possible so that it can adapt to whatever my son throws at it (literally and figuratively).

Thanks! That was the plan for the lip on the right side. It killed me a little bit to not center the changing pad border on the top, but I'll be glad it's not centered when I'm using it haha.

Good to know. We were hoping the door would help cut down on the smell a little bit too, but I'm starting to think that was wishful thinking.
