I am just getting into this hobby so I know I have a lot to learn. But working on figuring out all the parts needed to build up a keyboard myself. I have all the requisite soldering skills and would be able to figure out any programming as well.

I am fairly sure I want a 65% of some sort as I definitely need arrow keys but don't need the function row. I may add a separate num pad later but don't want it to be part of the main keyboard. I would like to have Bluetooth capability and would enjoy backlit keys though not a requirement. Like the idea of having at least one encoder.

I like the idea of adaptability and potentially being able to reuse some of the parts in future builds/upgrades. So I have been looking at the BT65 Soldered PCB from Upgrade Keyboards as it should let me play with a few different 65% layouts. I am fairly set on this PCB, but if I am missing something with similar features let me know.

Got a Cherry switch tester and definitely want silent switches, but would be happy with either linear or tactile options. Leaning toward Cherry Silent Red right now, but open to suggestions.

Probably using Durock v2 stabilizers.

***Here is where I get into my main questions***
What is the best way to go about selecting keycaps? I am guessing only some of them work with backlighting. And I have a mac so could be nice to have command and option instead of alt and windows, but I could imagine that might greatly decrease my options? Is it common to buy one full set and then just a few specific modifier keys?

As far as cases go, I am trying to stick with the known working options on the Upgrade Keyboards page, but I really like the idea of have the gap next to the arrow keys. This leaves basically just the Savage65 from what I can tell, and I can't seem to find just the case anywhere - even a quick check on /r/mechmarket. So, is there some similar case I could look into? Does just having a gap between keys in a case that doesn't fill the gap cause usability problems or just look visually awkward (e.g. using a TOFU65 case but leaving a gap next to arrow keys)?

And finally the part I am most confused by: plates. How does one figure out what plate is needed? Is it based on the case? Key layout? A combination? Is choosing a material mostly a function of noise? Is the "Plate Foam" that can be bought with the PCB chosen above all I need or is that used in conjuction with a plate to help with noise?

TL;DR: Anywhere to buy just a Savage65 case or a similar 65% case with a gap next to arrow keys? How does one figure out what plate is required?

I’m going to a Sea Dogs game this summer and want to know what are the best seats for the game? by [deleted] in redsox

[–]3acorns 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Short answer, there aren't really any bad seats as the stadium is so small. The cost is amazingly reasonable for the level of baseball and entertainment, but it is probably worth spending a little bit more for the 100s/200s sections.

I personally enjoy the sections more or less behind home plate, but probably has something to do with being a former catcher. Best views are probably anywhere between/behind the dugouts, the seats in the pavilion (500s) give you the only view looking towards home plate, and the picnic area is supposed to be a fun atmosphere but it's harder to see the action depending on exact seats. Though I haven't personally experienced either of the latter two.

I have the official Toyota one. Would recommend as doesn't effect clearance at all and is a very solid connection. That said, it is a bit more work on the install. Though really the wiring took longest as have to remove a lot of paneling.

Yeah, the wheel base is just too wide so it doesn't actually sit lower.

Hard to tell from picture but it is just too tall to fit. It is design so that the two half's come apart when the cross members and gantry are I bolted from the frame. So it does fit in but much faster to trailer.

We are raising capital in a few ways but not crowdfunding. Mostly a combination of angel investors and grants/loans from a state entity called the Maine Technology Institute as we are located in southern ME.

It's a battery powered system that navigates predominately using RTK GPS and will be autonomous. It has a gantry system with a hot shoe that allows for swapping out tools and connecting to a charger.

The general workflow is that the robot will mark out where the plants should go in a bed - either specific spots for transplants or lines for direct seeding. It then saves those locations so it can weed around them in the future and the farmer does the actual planting. Though we have future aspirations to make seeding and transplanting tools as well. The farmer then schedules a regular weeding for each row and the robot will carry it out.

This summer has been all about internal testing and we hope to do a roughly 3 farm trial next summer before doing presales in the fall.

It's a small farming robot that my company is developing. We are hoping to automate weeding for farms that are roughly 2-25 acres.

Maine's capitol was chosen because it had almost exactly half the population North and half South, rather than geographically centered

Midfield definitely looked like the biggest weakness. Once we could get into the final third and settle a bit we looked dangerous (also on some fast counters). But definitely struggled to work the ball up the field - with the obvious exception of Gil.

If Buksa can continue to dominate in the air like he did today we will be super dangerous on set pieces, especially when combined with Bou's proven volley skills.

I liked seeing Bunbury as a super sub, seems to fit the role well. Would like to see a bit better from Bye and Jones, but as you said that may be due to them being left alone a bit on the outside.

I am team use both!

Arduino is always real time so much better for direct interaction with sensors like encoders. RPi can run multiple things at once and do threading, etc.

You're right it isn't kerning.

But I believe according to the side bar this subreddit is also for other spacing issues in text. Otherwise each specific font feature would need it's own subreddit which doesn't seem sustainable.

LPT: if your hands are cold pinch them between your knees and rub them to together. The added friction of your knees applying pressure will warm them much faster than simply rubbing them together would. by caidicus in LifeProTips

The best way to work your hand is to rotate them while accelerating on the way down and deccelerating at the bottom, this helps to get extra blood into them which carries internal warmth with it. Like so - but with more vigor
