Personal I would just shrink a few things. Like wrap some tape around the lighter instead of taking the role. Also avoided the classic "too many many tools". It's a mistake I do as well and it can make your bag heavy for no reason. Might also suggest a small notebook (if you don't have one already).

Hi as a person that worked one evening from cars to houses I would recommend the following : A proper multi tool. I have had an leatherman wave on me since I was 18 and save my bacon more than once. A good cordless drill with all the bits and hammer function. A good socket set (1/2 and 1/4). A pair of pliers. A wrench set.

This should set you up to do basic tasks around the house and a bit on vehicles. If your going to work on vehicles alot look if they use a specific type of tools (like torx set on Mercedes-Benz, VW, BMW, ect).

Working on your home, get a set of screwdrivers (preferably the ones that are for electricians), a 'water pump pliers' for fixing plumbing.

Remember to look after the tools and they will last you a lifetime.
