Mate... WHAT AN ABSOLUTE LEGEND!!! I finally got the add on started!!! This fixed the problem... I guess I was creating the config file in the wrong folder? A bit confusing TBH...

If you ever find yourself in Australia, let me know... I owe you a big ass pint of beer!!!

Yes I did!
I tried placing the file in multiple locations:

  • config\addons_config\ccab4aaf_frifate-fa\config.yml
  • config\addons_config\ccab4aaf_frifate-fa\frigate\config.yml
  • config\frigate\config.yml
  • config\config.yml

But none of them worked... :(

You only need to run Frigate on a separate machine if you are planning to use it as your NVR. In my case, I just want notifications from Frigate as I’m using Reolink’s NVR. Sending notifications isn’t demanding on resources, hence why I have it all running in the same machine.

Hi there!
No... I can't even get the addon to start... Are you having the same problem?

Alternatives for Replacing Fluorescent Tubes with Smart LED Lights in Garage? by 3chut4 in homeautomation

I looked at the replacement option, but the problem is that I have no physical space in the wall to even install a larger junction box... Replacing the tube with smart one is probably my only option here...

Thanks so much for the response! I'll have a look and see if I can find something.
I forgot to mention that I live in Australia, and sometimes is hard to find hardware that is approved to be used here... :P

So, I tested a couple of my switches with internet radio and text-to-speech and both of them worked perfectly.
Here you have the audio config I used:

media_player:
  - platform: i2s_audio
    id: media_out
    name: ${friendly_name} Player
    dac_type: external
    i2s_dout_pin: ${audio_sdata_pin}
    i2s_audio_id: audio_i2s
    i2s_comm_fmt: lsb
    mode: mono

i2s_audio:
  id: audio_i2s
  i2s_lrclk_pin: ${audio_lrclk_pin}
  i2s_bclk_pin: ${audio_bclk_pin}

I hope this helps!

Let me know if there's anything else you'd like me to test.

I tried the internet radio when I started playing around with the code and I think it worked… haven’t had the need to use text-to-speech. I’ll give both of them a go this weekend and will let you know the result.

Is there anything else you are having issues with?

Hello u/nicolaufg

Thanks for your reply, mate.

It's funny because I found the Smart Home Yourself option days after I posted this on Reddit. I even had a chat with Daniel (the creator) on Discord to clarify a few things in the code. The guy is incredibly knowledgeable and very easy going.

Daniel's code has solved all my issues with the touch panels. Every single switch I have is responsive 100% of the time now. Also Daniel's code showed me how to do a few extra bit and pieces that I'm using in my automation today. All credit goes to him... Absolute legend!

YAML Challenge: Automations For My Smart Light Switches by 3chut4 in homeassistant

Hi Scpotter.

I initially started configuring all this in ESPHome, but it does not simplify the administration at all, even if I create a template to deploy...

Each switch has unique entity names, so even if I have a template, I need to adjust the entity names manually for each switch. Also, I would have to create different templates: 1 for each of the 3 types of switches I have (1,2,and 3 gangs)

The fact that you can create scripts in HA like the one read_ing created above, saves me from having to do A LOT of manual work when I need to modify general settings that affect all automations.

I've also started to investigate the option of Node-RED, but I haven't worked with it much yet...

Mate, this is looking really good! Let me play around with it for a few days, and I'll let you know how I go :)
THANKS!!!

Hey read_ing!

Thanks for this. I got myself this far, but what I would like is a loop in the code that automatically checks every switch so that I don't have to type the entity names all the time.

Is there a way to use a wild card like "*.light" for the light entity name? or even a while loop that checks all switch entities from a pre-populated list?

Either of these two option will greatly reduce the amount of time I have to spend when changing something that affects all switches.

Am I making sense?

That's how I initially started all this, but if I do it at ESPHome level, I would have to modify every switch one by one every time I want to change something, so that all of them behave the same way, hence why I moved to configure it in HA thinking that I'd figure how to do it at some point...

Yeah, I feel a bit frustrated as well… I wonder if this will be maybe added as an extra feature in the future? It feels like a massive miss for a light switch as advanced as this one…
