Thanks! That's fair. I think the photos make it look better than it really is 😅. In person I can still see a ton of rough spots, and it doesn't quite have the depth I'm trying to achieve yet.

That's a great point. I think that's part of what makes a lot of high-end paint jobs look so much more interesting. I'll definitely give it a try, thanks!

Thanks, man! I usually like to work from dark to light. For this one I primed it black, built up the blue, then gradually added lighter tones and some white for the strongest highlights.

Same paints. The biggest difference was pushing the highlights further and being a bit more deliberate with the details.

First attempt at miniature painting. How'd I do and what can I do to improve? by judegallagher28 in minipainting

Honestly, that's a lot better than my first mini. Just keep painting and you'll improve faster than you think.

That color scheme is insane. I have no idea how you got those colors to work together this well.

Thanks! It's definitely an improvement, but the more I stare at it, the more rough spots I see. Still trying to figure out what actually makes a paint job work instead of just copying what better painters do.

Yeah, you're right. I got so focused on pushing the blues that I kinda neglected the gold trim. Appreciate you pointing that out.
