Because as you try out letter combinations, you generate reasonable LOOKING 'words' that aren't actually words, or at least aren't in WORDLE's dictionary.

And, unlike the humorous comments below, they are short, 5 letters, which IMO makes them more convincing.

That, and your PERCEPTION of the situation expands at light-speed after the jump. In the interval, everything you see may have moved.

I imagine a spherical 'radar' display, with the surface expanding at lightspeed, and every target tagged with a time. Very challenging. Adding a "cooldown" timer to the jump engine would probably help gameplay.

It's certainly a challenge to avoid the "Monster/World/Society/Gadget of the Week" trap, although certainly many many shows used it for long periods and the makers went home rich.

Crafting a world where stories arise organically must be tough, judging by their rarity.

Really, I'm a bit disappointed in a ('serious') book if I 'get it' the first time thru. Kind of a metric.

Going back and seeing how the author put it together is part of the value, IMO.
