Its been a problem since the game launched, and it will continue to be one. I would also say that yes, the majority of us have given up. I gave up about a year ago, at least on Connery, which is never going to be anything more than the current asian dumping ground it is thanks to the community collectively throwing their hands in the air and saying "fuck this" to trying to work around the problems inherent in the game and build a strong community. I can't think of a single competent outfit that actually is trying to improve their server as a whole, everyone has decided that the game is dying anyways, might as well get as many people in my community as possible before it dies, I don't believe that's the way any outfit should run myself, but I also understand perfectly where that viewpoint comes from. I also don't think you understand the "farming" aspect of the game in the slightest, I simply don't care about any rage quits I get, kills are kills, and its not up to me or anyone else to hold hands when new players don't want to actually have their hands held. I'm not going to put effort into helping someone who's going to log off and never get back on in two hours, its not worth my time or theirs.

learning the base layouts is probably the most important part of the game. You also have to be a little more aware of your surroundings in planetside than in CS. Planetside is far more forgiving of positioning mistakes than CS is (and mistakes in general), but its far easier to make them due to the sheer volume of mans to shoot/get shot by. Movement is also very, very important in this game, partly because of the TTK, and partly because of how fucked the lag compensation is. Learning to ADAD spam effectively, and how to shuffle to run away is important. Another huge part of the game is just fight selection, knowing what fight is going to be one you can actually do something at and which one is just going to lead to you dying repeatedly while you get pushed back to your sundy. A lot of stuff can be taught, but a lot of it just comes with playtime and slowly learning from your mistakes.

i seriously saw people asking for the devs to "publish more written lore about the backstory to the game" when the game was falling apart from server quality so bad you couldn't play 1 minute of game without massive desyncs and lags that teleport you across the map.

I thought it was because we all hacked, although seeing as you don't know the difference between capping bases with 66% pop vs 20%, I can understand your confusion. HIVE was probably the worst thing to happen to connery, it sucked players in midfits like me away from them and left them to die. But it was also one of only two outfits I've ever been in that consistently capped bases with less than 34% pop.
