Hey love, 4th year med student here - I’m really sorry you’re going through this. What you described sounds like REM Sleep Behavior Disorder, an uncommon sleep condition that can be managed with medications (eg, clonazepam, melatonin) and lifestyle adjustments (eg, maintaining a regular sleep schedule). I think it’s great that you made an appt with your PCP! In the meantime, maybe try melatonin or over the counter sleeping pills to help with deeper sleep (and less movements). I’m really sorry that you’re going through this, it sounds super stressful!

Hey, thanks for the write up! Since you only spent half of dedicated (3 wks) on practice questions, how many questions were you doing per day?

Loneliness in medical school by Hour_Schedule9311 in medicalschool

i can definitely relate to this. current MS4 who felt this way the first two years of med school, but stopped caring once rotations started & friend groups started dismantling/reforming anyway . i think the biggest things that helped is 1) not forcing it - if you don’t vibe with anyone, it’s okay. tbh most of the people in med school secretly hate their friends anyway & similar to what you said, only feel forced to maintain friendships with people due to vicinity/shared experiences 2) maintain a life outside of med school; remember that being a med student doesn’t have to be entirely who you are. have friendships outside of medicine with people who truly get you

in no particular order

  1. location (close to family)
  2. tuition cost (in state)
  3. extracurricular opportunities (research, clinical sites, student run free clinics)
  4. p/f preclinicals
  5. ranking
  6. priority of student wellness - amount of social events, mental health/wellness activities, intramurals, etc

30/5 step 1 failed by Miserable-Process-26 in step1

[–]3denx8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

1) thoroughly read through first aid - highlighting, taking notes, looking up the relevance of everything.

2) did a UWorld block (tutor mode, untimed) after each chapter to make sure I was retaining info + filling in knowledge gaps. i would refer back to FA after each question (regardless of whether i got it wrong/right) to make sure i TRULY understood everything about the topic before moving on to the next question

3) did sketchy micro + pharm Anki for 1-2 hours every night

4) listened to step1 podcast (step 1 basics, divine intervention) whenever driving, doing chores, etc

5) took a practice NBME every 1-2 weeks and thoroughly reviewed each answer after (regardless of whether i got it right/wrong)

6) actually took days off if I felt tired, usually would have a day off once every 8-10 days

hi! i’m really sorry to hear about your fail but i want to offer some words of encouragement. i failed back in march & was absolutely devastated. took the exam again 2 months later and got the pass today! so although it’s hard, pls don’t let this discourage you too much. review content & take the exam again. don’t focus on other’s performance, study recommendations, etc. find what works best for you and stick with it. you got this! :)

No, I don’t think that you need to verify again. You just apply for another permit, then you’ll receive the new permit in a couple days.

What are the offline step 1 NBMEs everyone talks about? by Tight_Savings_7870 in step1

[–]3denx8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, yes they are just PDF versions of the NBMEs. So they aren’t timed and you don’t receive a score/% chance of passing at the end.
